“Had the best time of my life here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

Contrary to some of the reviews on here, I find the lodge to be pretty much ideal.

If you want a good value place in Byron bay, filled with great people, then here you go.

Located 2 minutes from Tallows (arguably the most beautiful beach EVER), and 5 minutes out of town (ideal for a good night's sleep), I think it's situated perfectly.

Sure some people smoke weed- but you're in Byron Bay... It's to be expected!

The kitchen isn't THE cleanest I've ever seen, but it isn't any where near the dirtiest either. If you're a fellow backpacker you'll have no worries whatsoever.

Great amenities: free wifi, bus to town, equipment hire, free laptops and even bikes to use etc. you really can't complain!

I lived in the lodge December-March and loved every minute of it.

For me, the lodge is a home from home

Yes, it's a bit out of town. If you aren't lazy it's no real fuss! If you are, then there is a free shuttle regularly.

Seriously though, it's great value considering that (in winter) you get a free pancake, tea and coffee brekkie and free wifi all year round! Room was great (all girls 8 bed, met some great mates!) The atmosphere is really chilled, hippy vibe and is very 'Byron'. Great if you don't wanna get smashed and just want a chilled stay. Near Tallows beach, which I'd recommend for the sunrise :-)

I had a great stay!

This hostel was my favorite going up the east coast in Aus. There is a laidback feel and everyone I met here was easy to get along with. The only real con is that the hostel is about 15-20 min walk from the township whereas most hostels are 5 min, but they do have a shuttle for you. Free wifi is also awesome!

So it is a 15-20 min walk from hostel to the main part of town which is ok if you're not carrying your stuff. There is a shuttle that goes in and out of town almost every hour but it does fill up quick- pick up in town is by the noodle box where all the busses drop off ppl and shuttle vans wait.

I liked our room (#13) but the showers weren't the neatest (they have these yellow bugs there)! You can get utensils from the front desk and you keep it with you for your stay. I appreciated the free wifi in the common room (didn't really work in the room) and setting me up with my nimbin tour - I would say if you have other things to do you can save yourself $28 and hang out at the beach instead. Rented a surfboard to my brother for the whole day for $10.

About a 10 min walk to cheeky monkey where you can get a $5 dinner after 7pm. Start lining up at 6:45pm and you will feel like you're queueing up for a club. Can't beat the $5 meals though.

And if you plan to hike up to the lighthouse at night- bring a flashlight!

Getting to the beach/center is quite a hike, even though its not to bad to make the lighthouse walk. but at least there is a shuttle.

The rooms were quite dark and small. in our room was someone staying for already a month which you could definitely smell…

we had to leave at 8:30am (for the bus) so it was really hard to get back our deposit as the staff (which is responsible for that stuff) usually appears at 9:00…that was annoying.
The pool was nice, the main area okay.

all in all not too bad, but not the best. i guess for the price it was okay!

Me and a friend stayed at Cape Byron lodge for a week while we were in Byron bay and if it wasn't for the fact we had pre booked our bus in advance we would probably still be there now. Very homely hostel with lots of cool chilled long term residents. Great facility's with free wifi. The perfect place to relax whist enjoying Byron.

I stayed here over Xmas, it was an 8 bed form but they stuck in another bed and it turned into a 9 bed dorm! The room was horrible! Degusting dorm room, I understand people live there but you couldn't actually see the ground with people's clothes food etc bathrooms wer clean but the shower wasn't very good, nobody was really friendly, a few people wer nice but they seem to have ther own group and they aren't really very welcoming & stoned all the time!! That's all they do!!
I would not recommend this host at all!!
