“Great Breakfast with a view”
Reviewed 11 December 2013

Stayed here with a special accor offer and had the basic room. Was really pleased, great, modern room, balcony with water glimpses. All the hotel staff were really friendly and professional. The bar has happy hours but best of all was the buffet breakfast. its served in a dining room overlooking the harbour with a fantastic view of Kiama harbour. The Sunday market is across the road and is pretty good but isnt on every week. Parking available in undergrounbd car park but found it easier just to park on the street. The train station is a 5 minute walk away as is everything else in town.

Seriously, I don't say this often, but this property is overpriced and over rated!
Maybe it was because we were staying as part of a Wedding party and instead of a discounted rate we got robbed instead!
The check in was fast and friendly, the wedding Function nice enough. The pre Wedding food was good, but they got our order wrong!
There is nowhere in the Bathroom to put things, like toiletries etc. The bed was comfortable, fixtures and fittings nice etc etc.
But when you know for a FACT that during the week my friends, all traveling Sales Reps get to stay here for a fraction of what we paid...well you cant help but feel a little ripped off. And lets face it, we have stayed at far more prestigious places than Sebel for the same $$!
There was actually 3 different Weddings on this Saturday night, so if you want a romantic getaway for a weekend I would go in NON Wedding Season!

Room Tip: For $300 demand a room with an Ocean view, not of the railway line and shanty shacks towards the sid...

Having to recently attend a conference in Kiama, which I must add is a really beautiful place. Unfortunately the hotel is not geared towards business travel or let alone towards the modern day leisure traveller. No WIFI access in the rooms. Only in foyer which means that you use your mobile devices only in this area. Not the greatest and I thought was a major inconvenience in todays times. Cable internet is not geared towards modern devices and useless to have them in the rooms. Conference rooms not suited to WIFI either. Staff are friendly which is why are give this a 2 star rating.

Had a event on the south coast which we had left late to organise accommodation. Seems this time of year is exceptionally busy with wedding and conferences. Resolved as Accor members for many years, seldom disappointed with their accommodation and the benefits of their membership so it was easiest to book the Sebel from the Accor website.

Arrived and queried if they needed to see our Accor members card for check in to be told bluntly that they don't accept the card or any of its privileges as they aren't part of Accor. Confused we immediately contacted Accor to be informed after 2 lengthy calls with 3 different people ( plus whoever they spoke to) that yes Sebel aren't part of Accor.....no, wait.... yes they are ....but no, wait.... not quite just yet. Not sure we felt any better that we weren't the only ones confused and surprised by this situation. Supposedly "somewhere" on the Accor website you are advised of that. We couldn't find that "somewhere" and we did look at the numerous links, but could still only find the hotel on their Accor website, the ebooking confirmation that came with the Accor header and lots of Accor branding with the Sebel info. If there some link where there is some " fine print", we couldn't find it.

We were really disappointed with Accor to say the least, unimpressed with the receptionist but tired from our drive and didn't want to waste time exploring other alternatives so kept our booking. Though it was also made clear to us we where required to still pay for that night even if we didn't stay. A convenient and expedient view of a "good faith" agreement. Fortunately a different person booked us in, far more personable, helpful and apologetic. Having said that, to rub salt in the wound, all the room keys were branded Accor not to mention the tags on the electrical items.

We were given a lovely executive room at the front of the hotel, on the first floor, with a partial view of the harbour which I'll come back to. Great sized room, very comfortable king sized bed with very soft quality sheets, plenty of hanging space that could have done with some more hangers, the bathroom had a bathtub/ "shower", plenty of hot water but had the " green" friendly shower rose what should be called "sprinkle" rose and the towels needed more softener, good stocked bar fridge, coffee/tea making etc, Foxtel and movies on the TV, comfy chairs and coffee table by the window and AC of course. Parking was convenient and the lift easily accessible.

The window was probably the most disappointing part of the room. It had wooden louvers on both sides that weren't screened. As much as I love a sea breeze and the smell of salt air we don't love insects in our room so they understandably stayed closed. The other curious and disappointing aspect is the window only had a roll down blind to darken the room, which wasn't large enough to do that fully and nothing else. Our room was directly opposite the eatery/ bar/ grassed area and paths. While we appreciated the ocean view and that the view of the bar etc is part of the view, I would have thought the privacy of guests was more considered, especially in these rooms. We couldn't understand why there wasn't a curtain / blind that still allows you to enjoy both the view and your privacy ( I did check outside and could clearly see everything in the room and others) You should also be prepared for the noise from any of the weddings/ functions that happen in the eateries during the evening.

Interestingly the hotel is also is built around a historic school house which is beautiful and worth checking out. You can understand why conferences there would be so popular. The harbour is also just across the road with plenty of scenic walks for the sights, including the famous " blow hole" or for the exercise.

Kiama is also beautiful as is all the south coast.

Accor members check what the Sebel's Accor status is before you book.
