“Where fresh is best”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

Firstly if Dave goes out fishing then restaurant opens, so you know it's fresh. Bad weather, no fishing charters no fish no meal, simple really.
We were fortunate to go fishing, catch fish and then enjoy our fish with some lucky tourists who booked the restaurant that night.
Family run kitchen where the charter boat captain is you chef, thanks Dave and your lovely wife who's name escapes me for the great food and trip.
The four of us will come again.

“Unfortunately can only give a rating of poor”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Booked to have a dinner at Greenback. Arrived but not a sole around. Owners decided to not open for the night!!! Shame they didn't tell my husband & I ????? We were NOT impressed. Refused to book another night. Fortunately for us Pandanus welcomed us to have dinner- thank you Steve. I wouldn't recommend going to Greenback- the other restaurants on the island want your company & your money.

“good... but”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

We had been out with Dave on Greenback charters and caught some good fish so we thought we might try the eatery too.
It is a small eatery and therefore has a limited menu, but showcases the fresh lord howe island fish.
Other than the fact out entree came out after our main ... the food was delicious and well prepared.
We were however a little disappointed with the fact you cant get a bread roll ( you need something to soak up the beautiful sauce from the main!) and also coffee/tea is not available either . I think that let it down a little bit.
Our bus driver from Wilson's was there to pick us up very early as well which made us feel a little rushed.

“Sashimi Extraordinaire!”

Small Verandah Restaurant, Limited Menu but the food was lovely. The walk home under the huge Banyan Trees at night was magical - a little spooky!

“The best fresh fish”
Reviewed 26 October 2013 via mobile

We had dropped by Greenback on Wednesday and interrupted their time off, but David was kind enough to pull together some sashimi for my wife for lunch - which she raved about. They were fully booked Thursday, so we booked in for Saturday night. We had bumped in to David and Glenys downtown in the afternoon and they said they had a good day fishing so we were looking forward to dinner. My wife had the two entrees on offer - the sashimi of trevally, and a carpaccio of trevally as well, while I just had the main of fresh kingfish in a light batter with salad and chips. Glorious - among the best and freshest fish meal we have had - knowing it had all been swimming only 12 hours before. My wife then finished off with the panne cotta with rhubarb and strawberry coulis. She raved about that too. We did BYO with a great bottle of Sancerre to top off a perfect meal. The price was quite reasonable and the service friendly and helpful. Book in and go there. A great meal.
