We went by glass bottomed boat to North Bay to view the coral. Also provided time to snorkel . This was amazing, with fish & coral so close. One fish even nibbled my finger. Wetsuits were available at only $5 extra, Morning tea provided, with a walk on the beach. Then back on the boat and we saw turtles and a stingray, through the bottom of the boat. Really well organised few hours.

Thank Jenn P

Thanks for your positive review!
Lord Howe is the perfect environment to learn how to snorkel - abundant fish life, shallow water and a protected reef system. Hope to see you out here again.

All the best,

We have had about 10 trips to Lord Howe Island with and (now) without children.
Our first stop after arriving is to visit Peter and Brian to organise all our boating/snorkelling/paddling adventures.
This is the very best way to enjoy and marvel at Lord Howe Island...by sea.
There are many different tours and it is all done in such a relaxed way that you just feel like part of an extended family.
Nothing is too much trouble and all needs are catered for.
Peter and Brian have such great knowledge of this fabulous marine park.
This is a must do when you visit.
The snorkelling is just sensational.
This time we did a paddling trip out to the Admiralty Islands and then had a snorkel, this was such a highlight.
You always feel so safe and supported on any trip with " the brothers"
...and then there is Vicki's Chocolate Cake offered on every adventure.
What more could you ask for!!!

We did the North Bay Nature & Turtle Tour, 3 hrs, $70 which included a guided walk/talk of the seabird rookeries with Ian Hutton (naturalist), coral viewing in a glass bottom boat and snorkelling with the fish and turtles in the lagoon and also morning tea with home made choc cake. We were lucky and saw turtles and newly hatched chicks on the beach which you can get so close to. Highly recommend, well worth it.

Thanks for your review. Yes, the Ian Hutton 1/2 day tour to North Bay is packed full of information - birds, marine life, island history and geography. We are happy you enjoyed the experience and hopefully see you back here again some day.

Cheers,

Our family are regular return visitors and Cap'n Pete is always our first stop in planning our activities on LHI. This year we did a North Bay trip and took our own BBQ. We started with a tour of the nesting birds and babies at North Bay and just loved the fantastic knowledge of Pete about the sooty turns, noddy turns and white turns as well as the vegetation. We then snorkelled in the old Gulch with some big fish and laid in the sun back at North Bay.

After our BBQ lunch the tide was right for the herring pools so we dinned on our shoes and clambered around the ledge for a few aerial entries into the deep pools. After this we met Pete for a snorkel around the wreck if the favourite in the lagoon. Watch out for those book fish in the boiler !
Back to the picnic area for Vicki's famous chocolate cake and a cuppa before the treat back over the north passage and some amazing viewing of Sumo and many many other green and loggerhead turtles. It ware plenty of them and was great to see them sleeping and feeding

Just one great day from Islander Cruises.

I would also recommend the snorkelling in 4 places tour (take a wetsuit) where so many different corals and fish - and the odd galapagos whaler shark (or two). This is topped off again by that beautiful chocolate cake and a cuppa back at the boatshed. I was even lucky enough to get an encore.

Much thanks again Cap'n Pete

Ps Pete's brother Brian has the Howea scuba boat. We have previously charted this for a round the island tour and he has also taken me to an amazing dive off Malabar. My 16yo daughter also completed her PADI with Brian during our stay. Highly recommended too!

Having done a dive with Howea, we signed up for the Specialised Snorkelling Tour with Islander Cruises (operate from the same shed). On the day we did it there was a strong breeze and the weather was closing in, but we got in our 4 snorkels on Horseshoe Reef, Erscott's Hole, Comet's Hole and one other location. I gather we weren't able to do one of the usual locations due to the weather. All the snorkel spots were inside the lagoon so very sheltered. Two of the locations had very really nice coral and two had great fish life - I saw lion fish for the first time, and there were several small reef sharks (about 1m long - no threat). Lots of large schools of different types of fish.

Big tip - pay the extra $5 to hire a shortie wetsuit. By the end of the 4th snorkel I was feeling cold, even with it. For novices, it also aids flotation so you can concentrate on the sea life rather than worry about staying afloat.

A really great afternoon out.

Thank you for your positive review!
The Specialised Snorkelling tour is a great tour for people of any skill level beginner to advanced.
Thanks for the tip, we encourage wetsuits on the Tour as after 2 hours Snorkelling you could be cold. The buoyancy in wetsuits is great as they do relax guests so they can focus on the Marine life.
Cheers Pete
