The rooms are lovely, not much furniture but furniture is not what you're on holidays for. It's a really short bike ride away from the main group of shops and a convenience store is just across the road.

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks on Lord Howe Island, staying at Leanda-Lei. Our two bedroom unit was clean, the furniture was minimal but very comfortable (particularly the beds) and the kitchen was well equipped. A good place to stay while enjoying this beautiful island.

We had a wonderful three days at Leanda-Lei just before Christmas; taking a two bed apartment for the four of us (parents + 2 older kids). Whilst we didn't cook there, it was just so central for all the things we wanted to do (all restaurants are within a good walk), and it's five minutes down to the main lagoon beach. On site (cheap) rental bikes as well.

Three days isn't really enough for LHI but we were on a trip from the UK to Oz so were packing things in. Highlight was the full day walk up Mt Gower (8 hour walk) - the views from the top are simply stunning. It's just so easy to organise everything, everyone on the island was helpful & friendly and the natural surroundings are magnificent.

Although the flights are expensive, it's well worth it. In terms of food, our favourite place was the Anchorage Cafe.

Leanda-Lei is situated in an ideal location, close to the Lagoon Beach, the Coral Café, Joy's shop and Ned's beach. The rooms are spacious and clean. The owners go out of their way to make your stay a happy one. We were a group of 16 and it was ideal for us. Perhaps a little too noisy for the other guests when we all got together for a BBQ!

Leanda-Lei isn't the fanciest place, but the rooms are fair and clean. It is very good value and, being family owned, they are so friendly and accommodating they almost adopt you. I would definitely recommend this place for a family or group stay. Lord Howe is definitely worth the visit if you want a laid back holiday in a bit of a time warp with no mobile phones, bike riding, bush walking, swimming and snorkelling. We will be back....

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights at Leanda-Lei in September 2013. We booked a 1 bedroom room apartment, but were allocated a 2 bedroom apartment on arrival. The apartment was simple, clean and tidy. The weather when we visited was warm during the day, however cooled down at night. Unfortunately, there was no heating in the apartment, so at night we needed to keep warm with the blankets provided. Leanda-Lei is situated in a convenient location, opposite Joy's General Store, and an easy ride mid-way up the hill, on the main loop of accommodation, stores and resturants on Lord Howe Island. Overall, we would recommend Leanda-Lei as a good accommodation option on Lord Howe Island.

This is the ideal location on LHI. Right across the street from the shop and near to the beach. It's only a little way up the hill that stretches the length of the island, so it's easy to walk to the beach and restaurants. There are a number of places to stay on the island but some are up on the ridge line the overlooks the bay and others are scattered far and wide. It would be a trek from any of the others to get a coffee or do some shopping. And forget about walking home at night unless you're at the Leanda Lei. It's pitch dark at night and worse when it's cloudy or raining. The Leanda lei is also close to the museum and it's coffee shop. It's really worth a visit.

There are plenty of great walks and chillaxing to do, there is not much else! we did play golf and it's a lovely 9 holes with an amazing ocean and mountain backdrop. we were delayed for an extra night due to high winds; the plane couldn't land. Anyone visiting should be prepared that you may be stuck there. We got an extra night's accommodation at LL but it cost $330! Phew! But others we looked at are far more expensive!
We brought a few dvd's from home and you can also hire them at the shop, the LL has dvd players in each room. We found the shop prices to be quite reasonable and they stock everything including meats, wine, milk, daily newspapers and so on.
The best rooms are the two separate bungalows, number 18 an 19 that overlook the garden and the mountains, although only being fibro cement type construction (as is the whole place) they may be noisy. Anyway, we think that this is the best place to stay.
