We stayed for two nights in room 1 and it was cleaned and organized layout. It looked like it has recently remodeled with modern kitchenette. Will stay again for valued price. Noise from the highway was not a big concern.

There are several problems at this place - firstly the rooms need an overhaul. The bathrooms are way back in the 70's and I doubt it would make a two star rating. The male manager needs a lesson in customer service and the location by the highway is very noisy.

When I looked out the front window I saw a plant pot full to the brim of cigarette butts - a most off putting sight.

A disappointing property - give it a miss.

Room Tip: They're all noisy from the passing traffic - take ear plugs.

I stayed at the Poplars recently with guests from Queensland and Ireland for a special evening. We were rudely greeted by the receptionist who told us to wait whilst she sorted paperwork and then told us that one of our rooms had been given to another guest. She continued to tell us that she had another room with a "pull out" available! After our complaints we were given two rooms that had enough beds. The rooms were clean and well equipped except for the broken glass on a high shelf, no ice in the fridge which needed defrosting, and the shower head that fell off with first use. 8am the proprietor pounded on the door waking us all with a start, demanding to know why we hadn't put the 'do not disturb' sign on the outside of the door and would we be checking out soon. He also wanted to know why the car was not parked outside the room (we had one car and two rooms). He became obnoxious when told to leave the room. This fellow was another Basil Fawlty! Whilst we had a laugh at his antics it wasn't really funny and we would not recommend this motel to anyone wanting to stay in the southern highlands. It made it even more disappointing given that it was my mother's 70th birthday and I had sisters come to Sydney from Ireland and Queensland to celebrate the occasion. Having said all this the Prince Albert B&B next door was wonderful. The staff were lovely and very obliging, the food was awesome and plenty of it and the prices were quiet reasonable. Had we known that they had rooms available to sleep we would have stayed there instead of the Poplars.

Room Tip: Go next door to the Prince Albert

We stayed on Saturday and Sunday nights. In the early hours of Monday morning we had a lot of noise from traffic on the highway that we didn't hear the previous evening. Lots of trucks in particular and this was a shame because it's a pleasant please to stay. The rooms are starting to look a little old however they are kept spotlessly and the bed was very comfortable. Good TV, kitchenette and ironing facilities are all there and great parking at the door. Despite the noise we would stay again.

We have just returned from a quick overnight stay at Poplars and were impressed with the service of Ken and Nola and the comfort of the room, complete with fridge and microwave.
We highly recommend for a quick overnight stay or relaxing escape and would definately stay again
