Description: Our restaurant is a reflection of Rick's passion for seafood and the coastal lifestyle which he has enjoyed for most of his life. As he says: "nothing is so exhilarating as fresh fish, simply cooked". He believes that fresh seafood should speak for itself. While he enjoys occasional fine dining, his food is much more about what he really likes to eat: a plate of Clyde River oysters, a pot of Illawarra prawns with mayonnaise, a mound of spanner crab, a slice of blue eye or a perfectly grilled sand whiting. We like our service to be informal but observant and enjoy employing local people who may lack the total polish of fine dining restaurants, but who more than make up for it with a genuine welcome.Peter Bacon, General Manager

“Great seafood followed by a lovely breakfast the next morning”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

Wife and I stayed at Bannisters for 2 nights recently. had two Breakfasts and Dinner in the restaurant. Breakfast was very good with both hot and cold dishes available. Eggs Benedict was well worth a try and the big breakfast was exactly that. Dinner at Rick Stein's was as expected - very, very good (we have dined here a few times previously while in Mollymook or surrounds). Prawn Fritters followed by the Fish Pie. Both were excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. It's pricey but food is fresh and well prepared - as you would expect.

“Wonderful long Saturday lunch”
Reviewed 13 November 2013 via mobile

We drove up from Melbourne to have a weekend away and Bannisters restaurant was definitely the highlight.
There were 4 of us for lunch and everybody enjoyed their meals
I had the oysters with spicy sausages unusual but great combination followed by the Indonesian seafood curry - it was delicious.
The wine list was good and the service fantastic to the point where our waiter organised the duty manager to drive us back to our motel.
Our only regret is that we didn't stay at Bannisters.

“Fresh but ordinary”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

Beautiful location and quality staffing. Sashimi, fresh. It can only be fresh or dangerous so it was good. Prawn fritters - soggy batter although fine in covering with a tomato relish that had no taste or imagination. Snapper portion was slightly overcooked served on simple salsa base that was again ordinary and simplistic in taste. Fish pie was a very large fail. No taste or flavours in the filling and a clumsy confusing texture - although a nice topping stopped it from being sent back and opting for more of the home baked bread and butter. The roulade meringue was a pleasant tasting and a well formed dessert. Unfortunately the ginger pudding (sticky date take-off) was dry in the centre with only minimal sauce, extremely disappointing. You could see how the constant theme of this restaurant was "simplistic" by looking at the ungarnished sides of greens and McDonald's type of unimaginative fries. To us it expressed laziness and reliance on some identity's name, and was the low point of our anniversary stay.
Eat by the pool and save the money to stay another night.

Dear RMB62,

Thank you for your feedback from evening at Rick Stein at Bannisters. While I am very pleased you thoroughly enjoyed your sashimi and appreciated the freshness of our produce, it is disappointing to hear you were underwhelmed by your experience as a whole. To begin, I think it is important to acknowledge that our restaurant is a reflection of Rick's honest style of cooking and passion for seafood, as he says: “nothing is so exhilarating as fresh fish, simply cooked”. He believes that fresh seafood should speak for itself. That being said, there is much delicacy required in the preparation of our dishes as the smallest of deviations can mean the difference between seafood that is exceptional or simply typical. I am surprised to hear that both your Prawn Fritters with Rick’s Tomato Chutney and Bannisters Fish Pie lacked taste as these dishes have great flavour and are usually well received by all. There is no excuse for overcooked snapper or serving a dry ginger pudding and I do offer my sincerest of apologies. We very much value your feedback and should you wish to send through your booking name and any additional comments our Head Chef Paul would like to investigate exactly what went wrong.

I do hope we have the opportunity to discuss the matter in person and regain your confidence in our restaurant. I trust that the rest of your stay at Bannisters was a relaxing and enjoyable anniversary weekend.

Best regards,

Peter Bacon

“Amazing view and breakfast.”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

Very enjoyable breakfast and reasonably priced. We had booked for dinner but couldn't make it, and sitting eating breakfast we reflected about how lovely it was to appreciate the outstanding location. Go while the view is still visible. Daylight savings would be perfect for dinner.
