“They go the extra mile to deliver excellent service”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

I cannot speak highly enough of the effort Older Nunnery owners, Ian and Margaret Pilgrim, went to deliver excellent service. The B&B was charming, warm, extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean, with a generous breakfast. The best part: my pillow, (needed for a bad neck) which I left behind, was hand delivered to my door by Ian on the Monday after our stay, fee of charge, as he thought the $50 postage fee was too much for me to pay! This is rare service.

Room Tip: Even the smallest room was a generous size with a king sized super comfortable bed. This room adjoin...

My husband and I stayed at The Old Nunnery for a weekend, whilst in the area attending a wedding.
This B&B is beautifully restored from head to toe. We chose the smallest room (Parisian) and it was more than adequate; we were so thrilled. The room was big and tastefully decorated. We had a king sized bed, spotlessly clean bathroom, and the towels and linen felt so soft and luxurious. They also have central heating and heating lights in the bathroom, so you are guaranteed to be toasty warm, which is essential during Winter.
The breakfast was absolutely amazing. Full English breakfast with many condiments on the side (cereal, fresh fruit, toast, muffins etc). Everything was clean, fresh, and very tasty.
We really enjoyed all the helpful tips and recommendations provided by Ian and Margaret. Each time they would enter the room, the other guests and I would have have beaming smiles on our faces, eager to hear more from them about the local area and its history.
They also own a beautiful and well behaved dog, Cino. She is very gentle, peaceful, and respectful. In fact, she was our favourite attraction :-)
We really look forward to our next stay at The Old Nunnery. Can't wait!

Room Tip: The Parisian room was stunning. Our friends stayed in 2 of the larger rooms and were extremely happy...

We stayed at The Old Nunnery for one night. Our room (the Shangri-La) was large, spacious, comfortable and warm. The bathroom (with a huge walk in shower and an indulgent bath tub) was just heavenly. Towels felt brand new, and the entire room/bathroom was spotlessly clean - it is also very beautifully designed. Margaret's baking is second-to-none.

Our only complaint was that, despite the notices on the webpage (and everywhere else) about the B&B having a 'no kids' policy (which was certainly half of the appeal for us), a family with 2 kids turned up just as we were checking in anyway. Given we were out exploring the wineries most of the afternoon, we weren't too bothered by the family in the room RIGHT next door to us; however we certainly noticed them at 7:00am the next morning when the kids were awake, running, jumping, shouting, crying etc. Unfortunately, this was really very annoying. The walls are not abundantly sound-proof (which is understandable given the old, beautifully restored nature of the building), and so every screech from the children were heard loud and clear in our room.

Ian was quite apologetic about this family arriving, and this minor hiccup certainly won't prevent from us making a return visit (I understand they were just as surprised as everyone else to have an entire family turn up for check-in), but I sincerely do hope that Margaret and Ian stick with their 'no kids' policy a little more firmly in the future. What could've been an absolutely perfect stay, was made "nice but could've been nicer" because of the noisy family next door.

Room Tip: We found the Shangri-la suite to be well worth the extra money spent. Also, don't forget to try...

The Old Nunnery is a glistening gem in the southern highlands. The B&B in Moss Vale has been extensively renovated by our hosts Ian & Margaret, who are both excellent hosts. Our room was large and spacious, beautifully decorated with a large en suite. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and warm although it was the middle of winter outside. Ian will gladly share the history of the old house over Margaret's wonderfully cooked breakfast. An easy walk into the main street for dinner. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: All renovated from top to bottom, some rooms are larger than others - spend a little more for this...

This is how B&B should be done. Ian and Margaret have created the perfect Southern Highlands short stay, with comfortable beds, tasteful and elegant decor, large rooms and a quiet, central location. What makes this truely special is the input from the hosts, tasty breakfast, helpful advice and entertaining stories. We will be back.

What a gem to find in the southern highlands. Beautifully restored, very comfortable and spacious rooms, and the hosts most welcoming. Would certainly recommend a visit. We loved our stay. Thank you Ian and Margaret
