This was a last minute booking on a busy weekend in Thredbo. The price was reasonable and the room clean. Although the motel is dated it was clean and staff friendly. The bathroom had a bath and shower. Complimentary toiletries as expected. The rooms were a little noisy, but not enough to annoy.
It is very close to everything.
Overall a great reasonably priced motel. Would stay again.

This is a great property and is located across the road to the entrance of Thredbo Alpine Village ski lift. I got some help finding it with the Jindabyne visitor info centre. They used wotif.com to find a deal ( http://www.wotif.com/search/results?country=AU&region=1475 ). It was a pretty expensive place that I talked down from $149 to $139 because it was the low season and their summer. The price could normally reach up to $300 per night. I got a bedroom with two double beds and ensuite. The location had free wifi but only in their lounge area. It had an outside pool and jacuzzi and indoor sauna. The price I paid included all you can eat buffet breakfast (on some days the hot items were made to order which was nice. They also included mushrooms, beans, tomatoes etc.). They had a TV and free movies, a fridge and mini-bar and room service. They had a couple of restaurants connected to their property, but some appeared closed down due to the season. It appeared like only a few hundred people were in Thredbo village during my stay for 2 nights. What would have made this place even better was free wifi in the room. Most places in Australia, however, don't have free wifi at all thought.

Brilliant location for summertime exploring, the Alpine hotel is a great location and friendly staff. The rooms are very very dated... But are functional. Looking for more modern accom for next visit. Pool not heated :( but good for 1 night:) breakfast was delicious :) :)

We stayed here for 2 nights in February 2014 (our second time in the year). The biggest plus for this hotel is it's friendly staff, from the check-in staff to the staff at Cascades restaurant, they are always cheery and friendly. The room itself is reasonable, it's an older hotel but the room was clean with a comfy bed. The only downside is that in the summer there is no air-con, so on the warm days the rooms get a little toasty (probably only an issue a couple of times a year).

Room Tip: Not a room tip per se, but Cascades (the restaurant at the hotel) does a very good breakfast and del...

I stayed for a second time at Rydges Thredbo, and wound up in the same room. My previous review mentioned the confusing spa instructions (variously referring to gold and black buttons while the actual button was white) - this has not changed.
The staff were friendly and helpful. One night I was there was somewhat busier than my previous out-of-season visit, but otherwise it was very quiet.
Breakfast was again superb.
I don't plan to return to Thredbo, but I would happily stay at Rydges again if I did.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the mountain have a great view

Spent a weekend here in January with wife and two teenagers for a family occasion. The choice of the hotel rather than one of the many appartments was based on ease of booking and not needing to organise anything other than clothes and a toothbrush.

We had a family room, a king with an adjoining twin. Nothing special, but nothing overly wrong. Easily opening windows, and a ceiling fan made a summer nights sleep easy and restful.

The hotel is a landmark in the village and has been there for a long time. As such it is a bit old and creaky, but not a bad place to stay, particularly for a 1 - 2 night visit.

Like almost all accomodation in Thredbo there are stairs. Dont be put off, the stairs in Thredbo accomodation are either inside or outside, you can't really miss them (if that puts you off, don't go to the mountains).

While the rooms are showing their age, new tv's, 2 movie channels and the usual hotel toiletries mean that your stay should be predictable.

Breakfast was good, and was rated very good but our teen male. All the dishes were regularly refreshed, and nothing was left wanting on a busy Sunday morning. I didn't try the included filter coffee, but the espresso ($4.50 for a mug) was good.

The age, cost and general condition of the hotel will prevent an excellent rating, but we had a great time so a very good is deserved.

Stayed here for 2 nights on 28/29 December (no longer Rydges). Had never been to Thredbo before so didn't know what to expect. The hotel is definitely old and needs an upgrade - it's got that tired ski lodge look about it. We had a room on the 3rd floor - no lifts - but found a side door just outside our room (Room 318) to a small road beside the hotel, so didn't have to carry bags all the way up the stairs. Room definitely needs an upgrade...but clean and comfortable though - king bed and small table/chairs - with a great view. Ceiling fan worked, but only to blow the breeze to the ceiling, even though you can switch it from winter to summer. Could not turn the air con down any lower so it was a bit stuffy, so had to sleep with the window open for fresh air. Had a drink at the pool bar - good selection of wine but very expensive. Had dinner at Cascades Restaurant on first night...good menu and the food was great, but the wait staff (one of the female supervisors with a bad attitude) was a problem and I had to complain. The hot buffet breakfast was awesome both mornings. Had a couple of meals at the hotel's tavern/pub which were really good. Reasonably priced drinks too, and it's also the local bottleshop. There's a handful of restaurants in the village surrounds to choose from, but be aware they are not cheap for either food or drinks. There is also a well-stocked supermarket in the village too. Great location - right opposite the ski lift the mountain. Will recommend this property if you don't have high expectations, but with new owners they might get around to renovating sooner than later.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor (the top floor) have the best views, but can be stuffy in the warmer months...
