We spent a beautiful few days at Mystwood after reading all the glowing reviews on this site - that did seem to good to be true. I was worried that it might not live up to our expectations. But it did, and more!

It rained almost non stop during our stay (the first rain that had fallen in months!), but it didn't matter! The place is very well set up for a cozy, rainy weekend. We still used the spa every day, walked to the sweet little dam, sat out on the balcony and watched the rain, lit the BBQ, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our 3 year old boy loved playing with Stella, who is the best trained dog I know.

The fridge was filled with goodies. A huge jar of coffee, free-range eggs, local bacon, milk. There was freshly baked bread. We were often asked if we had run out of anything, and if we needed anything. We had the delicious Moroccan BBQ chicken pack, and ordered the unbelievably amazing home cooked Thai dinner.

I cannot fault this place. The beds are so comfortable, the property is lovely, the area is so peaceful, the wine tour was lots of fun. I could go on and on.

But the thing that I feel really sets this place apart from other places I have stayed, is the people who run it. Real people, caring people, lovely people. They are wonderful, and we will be back.

Alanna and myself had the most amazing weekend away at Mystwood. No words can describe how much we loved this place. The atmosphere, the comfortable bed, the wildlife we saw, the friendly staff, Stella, the BBQ hamper & bread and most importantly the spa were amazing!!

The wine tour! A must do as Colin knows the local people and the history of the area. A really insight into how local wine is produced.

Myself and Alanna cant wait to return the Mystwood retreat.

• Great bed.
• Comfortable, clean, modern accommodation.
• Very private, relaxing and peaceful.

Headed up to the Hunter for a concert and all the accommodation we tried was booked. Someone referred us to Mystwood Retreats, and we were very impressed.

Arrived Friday evening, and, as there was a group of us; the Owners had arranged the barbeque area for us to have dinner in. They supplied salad, potatoes etc. and it was a really nice area to have dinner with our friends. The only problem ,was the driveway lights were not working, and we had to make our way in the dark to use our bathroom.

The cabins were extremely comfortable, a nice bedroom with a really good bed (particularly important to us). A sofa with TV, also a table and chairs in the kitchenette. Bring a coffee machine if you have one, we usually do, but forgot and drove each morning about 10 minutes to get our cappuccinos.

There is a nice outdoor verandah on each cabin, where they have a full size BBQ and table/chairs. We spent a lot of time outside watching the birds flitting about and barbequing our breakfast provisions that were supplied.

In the back of the cabin is a spa, all very private as well. I read a review where someone complained about the temperature in the spa being too high, not sure why you wouldn’t just turn it off till the heat is lowered as required.

The retreat is very peaceful and relaxing. We got a shock initially as there is no mobile phone reception or Internet, but it was a good opportunity to have a total break and we really enjoyed it.

We will certainly come back, just need to make the time to do it.

From the moment we arrived, being at Mystwood made us feel so relaxed, we forgot about work altogether. Our cabin was immaculate, the private spa was already warm, our BBQ dinner was perfect and the bed was so comfortable we struggled to get up the next day for a breakfast which included freshly baked bread.

Our hosts, Simon and Lieneka were brilliant - at the end of the telephone if needed, but otherwise invisible. We ventured out briefly and found newsagent, cafes, a pub (Wollombi Tavern) and wine bar (Laguna Wine Bar) were within minutes of our retreat.

Our only regret is that we didn't book in for longer. We are already planning our next extended visit - the PERFECT getaway!!

I stayed here with my girlfriend for an extended weekend. The place was amazing and we really found ourselves not needing to do anything apart from getting out of bed each morning (the bed was that comfortable that it was difficult even doing that!!). I have never seen a fridge so well stocked upon our arrival - BBQ meals, wine, salads - amazing! The owners have a free and extensive DVD library which helped to make the rainy days very relaxing. Oh, and the outdoor spa was incredible. Such a relaxing experience to enjoy outdoors. We both had a great time (even with the rain) and would definitely go back again.

What a wonderful way to begin our married life together. The facilities & provisions were beyond compare, the breakfast hamper including fresh ground coffee, eggs, bacon & freshly baked bread lasted us for the three mornings of our stay. The BBQ pack was perfect for dinner the first evening after the drive up to Mystwood. The interactions with the owners and other retreaters was minimal (exactly what you want on your honeymoon). Stella, the retreat dog, is a delight. What a pleasure it was to see her strolling up onto the varandah to grab a quick pat ( or maybe a sneaky bite to eat). She is so gentle and spent a great deal of time curled up by the door of our cabin. The cabins were beautiful and the bed comfortable. The no mobile phone reception made for a pleasant change from the hum & buzz of everyday life. The surrounds & misty valley are spectacular & soothingly peaceful. We will be back as soon as we can. Do yourselves a favour & visit, you won't regret it..
