“Great gem of a B&B”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

We've stayed here 2x and really enjoyed ourselves each time. The rooms are quaint and pretty, there is some very nice common space, the food is terrific, and the hosts are marvelous and warm. We feel very at home here and yet taken care of at the same time (although it's a B&B, not a hotel, for those of you who want full amenities). It's clear the Sheila and Bob really enjoy getting to know a diverse range of people and they've done some great work on their beautiful, historic house so that it is welcoming and grand.
There's free internet, but no TV, which was completely fine by us. The Gilded Cupid is wonderfully located centrally along the main street in town so that everything is within easy walking distance. We were able to go to some delicious restaurants and pop "home" after a great rock concert at the Mauck Chunk Opera House in literally 2 mins.
Breakfast was a revelation each morning and the guests really enjoyed talking w/ each other. Sheila takes a lot of effort and pride in her inventive dishes, of which there are many. The hearty breakfasts really fortify you for a day of hiking or biking or whatever activities you may enjoy.
The only thing that's a bit negative is that the walls can be a little thin at times.
We highly recommend this place. It's now our go-to place in the city we try to escape to 1-2x/year.

Room Tip: no fitness center or pool

We booked a room at the Gilded Cupid at the last minute, taking a advantage of our only weekend free while our kids were at sleepaway camp. Sheila and Bob were the ultimate hosts, making our stay more than comfortable in their beautiful victorian home. Our room was tastefully decorated in cozy period charm with modern luxurious touches such as high end bed linens, bath products and towels. Sheila's breakfasts were amazing, and more than fueled us for our weekend warrior escapades of hiking and biking. Their location smack in the middle of the quaint village of Jim Thorpe made for a great excuse to walk to dinner, shopping etc, we hardly drove all weekend; and the off-street parking they offer is a wonderful perk. We had a wonderful time, and can't wait to come back!

With the hustle and bustle of big city living, my wife and I wanted nothing more than to spend our 3rd Anniversary with some peace, quiet, and beauty. We chose the Gilded Cupid because it offered us just what we were looking for. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with respect and given the utmost consideration by the wonderful owners, Bob and Sheila. They made our first trip to Jim Thorpe an unforgettable one. Never in all of my travels have I felt more welcome than by the owners of this incredible place. The decor is classy, the breakfast is phenomenal, and the building is as charming as you will find. With long hallways, a breezy balcony, and a backyard garden tucked away for privacy, this place is littered with little treasures everywhere you turn. If a television, neon sign, or generic room is what you're looking for, then this may not be the place for you. But if you happen upon Jim Thorpe and are looking for a romantic B&B to spend a few nights, this is the place to do it.

Wonderful getaway weekend in Jim Thorpe. Bob and Sheila greeted us upon arrival and were the definition of hospitality. Our room was lovely, very comfortable. The linens and towels were top notch and so soft that you paused for a moment to enjoying the feeling. We like to hike and had a few trips in mind. Bob had maps and advice ready and waiting. It was good we were hikers because then we could eat up the amazing breakfasts that Sheila cooked up. It is obvious she loves to cook and takes great pride in what she serves. It really was top notch. The location of the Gilded Cupid was perfect, close enough to walk to town, dinner, and the opera house. Parking is an issue in JIm Thorpe and Sheila and Bob have a driveway next to the Inn where you park for free. We enjoyed the Fleetwood Mac tribute band Tusk at the Mauchunk Opera House only a stones throw away. It was a treat to be able to walk to dinner, a show, and then home. The falls hike at Glenn Onoko is a challenging but fabulous hike and highly recommended. Looking forward to our next trip to Jim Thorpe and our stay at the Gilded Cupid. Maybe next time we will visit in warmer weather and bring our bikes! Although winter hiking is tops!

This trip was a gift from my children to me and my husband for my birthday and it was the best gift that I received this year! Not only is this bed and breakfast charming and cozy, we had the best breakfasts of our lives there! Whenever we needed a suggestion for entertainment or dining, Sheila led us to the perfect places. We just enjoyed getting to know Bob and Sheila and we will be back sometime soon.

Room Tip: I don't think that there is a bad choice there.

We were delighted with the convenient location, comfortable rooms, and amazing breakfasts. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The private bath was a wonderful claw-footed large tub that was so relaxing.

Sheila was looking out as we arrived and helped us park and get settled. She was very easy to talk with and we immediately felt very comfortable. Bob was working so we did not see him until breakfast. We were in town to see a show at the opera house and the Gilded Cupid suited our needs perfectly. Jim Thorpe is refreshing in the way it makes you feel like you have stepped into a time machine back into history. I loved the old bathroom very much.
Breakfast was fantastic, and we will be looking up this B & B next time we are in town.

Thanks Sheila & Bob
