“Perfect weekend getaway!”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

Just returned from Murder Mystery Weekend stay at Harry Packer Mansion. It was a perfect way to celebrate our September birthdays as we had a wonderful time. The hosts Pat & Bob do a terrific job making everyone feel welcome and the nightly mystery rounds were great fun. We stayed in the Carriage House and the rooms were lovely, got to peek in on the mansion guest rooms and they were exquisite. The meals were excellent with a generous breakfast buffet daily while the Saturday evening dinner of Chateau Briand was devine. To put it simply; we loved our stay and would HIGHLY recommend a stay at this incredible residence. Thank you so much Pat & Bob, hope to see you again soon.

Room Tip: Rooms on second floor of the mansion are the best, however you can't miss with any of the rooms.

Spent one night in Harry's Suite and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the owners Pat and Bob. They have done a wonderful job restoring this historical mansion. You cannot beat the beautiful and peaceful view from their outdoor veranda. If we are ever back in the area we would love to stay for their murder mystery weekend.

We were at the Mansion for the Murder Weekend. We had a great time and had plenty of laughs. The accommodations were very good even down to the plush robes in our rooms. The breakfast was yummy and prepared and presented perfectly. Eating on the porch that had a beautiful was very relaxing. The dinner was delicious and the meat melted in your mouth. The family owned business made us very comfortable and attended to our every need.

Our company held their annual meeting at the Harry Packer Mansion Inn this past week. Attendees (12) from all over the country participated and were very impressed with the Mansion accomodations, the friendly/professional service provided by the entire staff, local restaurants and outdoor activity options. I would highly recommend this venue for a business meeting or retreat. Our guests were fortunate enough to have the entire mansion for their meeting which allowed them unlimited use of the veranda with a spectacular view, the grand dining room, parlor, a libations lounge, carriage house and on site parking. Definitely a gem that we were fortunate enough find!

Meetings don't have to be in a conference room to be productive!
As a former corporate marketing director I always thought that meetings could be much more useful if the setting was wonderful.
We enjoy having companies treat their people to a special location and we think that
the increase in productivity makes it very worthwhile.
Hope to see you next year!

Came here for the Murder Mystery Weekend with my best friend. At first, we thought it was pricey, but once you think about it paying approximately $300 each for the whole weekend is SO worth it: two night stay, murder mystery, breakfast both mornings, & dinner Saturday night... Not to mention you're staying over in a very historical mansion... Completely worth it!

Bob is a genius with the complex mysteries he creates (He has been doing this for 29 years!). & it is not like a dinner theater... Each guest has a role & is assigned a character. There are 3 rounds of the murder mystery, which take place in the study. Guests have time Friday night (before 9), Saturday (12-6:00ish), and Sunday (after checkout) to explore the quaint, unique town. Content in the mystery is a little "dirty" but HILARIOUS & definitely not too over the top. Bob has the perfect personality to be the inspector and run the whole thing! This experience would not have been the same if someone else ran this.

Pat (Bob's wife) was quite the cook, I must say... & I am not just speaking for myself. All 10 murder mystery weekend guests absolutely LOVED and enjoyed her cooking very much. It was buffet style for both breakfast and dinner. There was an assortment to choose from. Very tasty and creative!

Taylor & Kristen... Awesome couple that help out with the mansion (i.e., serving drinks/snacks on the verandah, explaining the self tour, greeting guests, clearing dishes, etc.). Both were very personable and friendly :)

It was great to meet the other guests... We all got along, had a blast, & shared many laughs throughout the weekend.

My friend and I originally booked a room on the 3rd floor (which was cheaper than the rooms on the 2nd floor). When we got there, we were quite surprised to find out we've been upgraded for free to a room on the 2nd floor!

I recommend enjoying wine & cheese on the verandah... So relaxing with a great view. & you do NOT have to be guests to enjoy The Libations Lounge/verandah.

The safety system in place made us feel safe & secure with how they locked the front doors. Convenient to have a parking lot right outside these doors for us to park.

Cannot say enough about this place!! We are already planning on returning to do another mystery :)

Big thanks to Bob, Pat, Taylor, & Kristen for providing us with this awesome experience!! :)

I came here for the murder mystery weekend and have nothing but great things to say. Service was excellent, food was fantastic, and the people running the mansion do a superior job tending to the guests and making them feel welcome. It's in the perfect location for a weekend or a day getaway and to a to do in the town!

The Harry Packer Mansion was referred to my husband and I by a friend and we couldn't be more pleased with the time we had! Do not hesitate to call them right now and book a weekend stay. There doesn't seem to be a 'bad' time of year to go!

We stayed in a Carriage House guest room (there was only one room left as we decided last minute we needed a getaway) and it was surprisingly new and well appointed. My husband and I had ever stayed at a B&B once before and were left 'eh' on the experience. The Harry Packer seems to fit more of an inn feel (each room with their own bathroom for example) and may have raised the bar on expectations of other establishments! No televisions - GOOD! - because a weekend getaway isn't meant to sit holed up in a room watching the same shows I could see at home. Spending time at the Harry Packer is an invitation to detach from our everyday lives (but hey - there is WiFi in both the main house and the Carriage house so we did stay on top of work obligations).

Arriving in the nick of time on Friday night for the Murder Mystery experience, my husband and I were warmly greeted by one of the owners, Bob, and quickly served a drink from the Libations Lounge operated by the owner's son Taylor and his wife Kristin. Along with four other couples, my husband and I were expertly guided through a great mix of historical people and facts and a nice touch of fiction to create a very well written story. Over the course of Friday night, Saturday morning after breakfast, and Saturday night before/after dinner we weaved ours own ad-lib stories in with the "Inspector Bob"s tale of family money and murder. Turns out I wasn't the murder - whew! - but no spoilers here! I hear the story is a bit different each time.

Walking around Jim Thorpe we ran into many other couples that were eager to chat up the local food scene and most had already been to the Harry Packer to stay and highly recommended it (without knowing we were already booked there). The visitors and town alike seem to love the effort and care that Bob, his wife Pat, their son Taylor and his wife Kristen put into the property. Most people we bumped into had done the Murder Mystery and were eager to chat about plot differences (AFTER they made sure we were done with the experience). I can tell you that my husband and I WILL be returning to Jim Thorpe and staying at the Harry Packer Mansion again. It is ALL because of the hospitality that the Handwerk family has to their guests.

NOTE - When in Jim Thorpe be sure to take the Asa Packer Mansion tour next door (but AFTER you finish the Murder Mystery), eat at Crave, Broadway Grill (get the cheese plate oh my!), Molly Maguire's and shop up and down Race and Broadway.

Room Tip: Choose the Main House if you want the full experience of the historical decor - choose the Carriage...
