“Fantastic Summer Family Outing”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Once a year, we try to get out and find things to do that aren't your normal crowded tourist destinations like big museums, amusement parks, etc. Coal Tubin' was perfect for the goal of our trip, and it was overall a great time. We took three kids, from 5 - 10 years old, and they had a really fun time on the river. The attitude of the staff sets the tone for many experiences, and in this case, the experience started off on the right foot with the staff being very friendly and welcoming. This continued throughout the trip from the bus ride to the drop-off through the return of the equipment. We rented a cooler, and they gave us rope to tie tubes together. I'd strongly recommend either bringing or renting a cooler. The 3 hour float in the sun would be less fun if you are thirsty. On the float itself, we had a relaxing time. There are small "rapids" to keep things interesting and slower spots where the kids loved getting off of the tubes and playing in the river. Along the way we saw lots of wildlife, including some ducks who stayed with us, at a respectable "keep away from humans" distance of course, for a little while.

Regarding my rating, I really want to give this place a 4.5, but the website doesn't allow for decimal ratings, so I had to go with 4. It's just not quite a 5, due primarily to the facilities at the start/end point, but that did not detract from our experience. Either a little sprucing up of the restroom/changing room or being a person/family who isn't concerned about such things, would allow for a rating of 5.

Overall, we had a fantastic summer afternoon, and we definitely plan on going back!

“Great fun on a hot day”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

We spent a hot day as a family floating down the river. All had fun from 8 year old, hard to please teenagers to adults. The river seemed very clean to us. Maybe the other reviewer expected a swimming pool. The scenery starting from Greenhouse park was amazing. For most of the trip you would never know you were in town. There was enough turbulence to keep it interesting. Staff were helpful and fun. Rickety bus ride up river added to the experience.

“Great time”
Reviewed 5 July 2013

We've gone tubing several times now and have always had a wonderful time. The staff has always been great and quick to joke around. The Stoneycreek was the river of the year in 2012, this is a river that didn't support life 30 years ago due to mine drainage and pollution. In the 1980s they started cleaning things up and it's turned into the beautiful river that it is today. I've never had issues with a smell or dirtiness, it's a river for crying out loud, not evian bottled water. Sure there may be a little bit of mud at the bottom of your shoes when you're done but once again... It's a river! Seriously, when you're floating down and watching the deer and other wildlife with the beauty of our trees and mountains you wouldn't know you were anywhere near a city like Johnstown. Forget the one bad review and check this place out, you'll be glad you did.

“Great time for a summer day”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

Coal Tubin' provided a great time for my friends and I. The staff is very friendly and courteous to everyone who stops in. The river is not the cleanest, but it has gotten much better in the last few years. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid-back, which is exactly what I was looking for on a hot, humid afternoon. The water was cool, which is a definite plus, and they staff was very good at instructing us on the specifics we needed to know before we started. I have only gone tubing with them, but would love to try the whitewater rafting the next time I get a chance.
