“Always nice”
Reviewed 25 May 2013

Have stayed here several times, and all have been nice. Hotel is well maintained, with helpful friendly staff. Rooms are roomy with comfortable beds. Many of the rooms have nice new air conditioners that make the room temperatures very comfortable based on your desires. The restaurant is nice and has good food. I have only had bar food, burgers, wings and such but all have been very good.

Very nice entrance. Ample parking (but unexpected $5.00 parking fee), not the end of the world. Front desk was friendly, acknowledged Priority Club membership, and honored online request away from the elevator. A good amount of housekeepers were working on a Sunday. Yes, rooms are dated with the popcorn ceilings, but wasn't a show-stopper. Good size & clean bathrooms, with wooden trim, and an oversized shower head. Flat screen TV, new alarm clock, and a desk with extra outlets were a huge plus. Bed was well made and sheets were clean, with a mixture of soft and firm pillows. Local paper in front of the door in the morning, with USA Today in the lobby. Biggest concern was that the deadbolt/secondary lock hit the door frame and would not latch.

Room Tip: Market street is fairly busy. Some motorcycle (Harley) noise. You're not missing anything reques...

Dear ChristopherLewisNY,

Thank you for posting your kind review! We are thankful for your business, as well as your thoughts about your stay. We completed a $2.6 million rennovation in 2011 and are very proud of our lobby and guest rooms; glad you liked the entrance. I’ll be sure to pass along to our housekeeping staff that you found your room well-made and clean – they work so hard to keep our hotel in tip-top shape for all of our guests. We welcome you to stay with us in the future.
Have a great day!

A good experience in a hotel begins with first impressions. Excellent ambiance begins with the front lobby & the hospitality of the staff and ultimately the condition of the room you are staying in. The visit began on the right foot with a pleasant lobby, the decor was tastefully done & the theme was carried up to the front desk. As expected we were politely greeted by the person behind the front desk & unfortunately the experience went downhill from that point on. We were nickle & dimed for parking, & yes we paid a $5 fee per vehicle & of course the parking had no attendant & no card or ticket or license plate to monitor who goes in & out. In our eyes this was a cash grab. We complained & the front desk had a poor excuse that they were in the process of setting things up, yup! Our room was dated, stain filled (carpet, walls, tile, chairs & seats) & our window view overlooked the rusted central heating & ventilation of the hotel. The air quality in the room wasn't good either. I have no allergies yet I kept coughing & sneezing all night & of course when I left the room in the morning it magically disappeared. At breakfast the kids complained they were restless & woke up with dry throats. The double beds were uncomfortable & lumpy as well. Our brief encounters with the staff sealed the deal that this hotel was a poor choice. We encountered housekeeping on several occasions in the hallways, no eye contact, no greeting, no smile, no pleasantries initiated or reciprocated. The chap who bused the tables & cleared the hallways from room-service leftovers was the only bright light. In the elevator he greeted us, initiated conversation, was hospitable & very pleasant. At breakfast our server was polite, however, her body language & scowl on her face said otherwise. At check-out the front desk had no smile, did not ask or inquire about our stay & was only concerned with how we would pay for our parking. No good bye & have a nice day either. In short: Keep away!

Dear NicolasBlackJohnny,

Thank you for your candid review – it is through reviews like yours that we learn how to improve to ensure all of our guests enjoy a delightful stay. We appreciate your honest opinion and your business very much. The Holiday Inn Johnstown takes pride in providing 100% guest satisfaction everyday. Please accept my sincerest apologies that your stay was less than satisfactory. I’m glad you enjoyed our pleasant lobby and decor; our entire property, including all of our guest rooms, went through an extensive, $2.6 million rennovation in 2011 and we are so proud of the new look! We have received many great comments on the lobby and I’m glad you liked it. All of our staff receives extensive customer-service training so that we can ensure our guests all feel as welcome as they are: I apologize you did not receive the positive service. I have passed your comments along to our department managers so that these things do not happen again. Your truthful comments motivate us to set goals and to strive to be one of the great hotels that guests love. I hope that you will come back and allow us to make up for your last visit.

When our family gathers, we sometimes need to use a motel. Our son now refuses to stay here because, he said, the room was dirty when he stayed there a couple months ago. That's the first I've heard that complaint, but a motel room should be inspected and clean.

Room Tip: Make sure the room is clean before you unpack.

Dear Ernest 58,

Thank you for your review of our hotel. We appreciate your feedback, passed along from your son. I do apologize he found his room to be unsatisfactory – I will share this concern with our housekeeping staff to ensure that the utmost care and attention is taken when preparing rooms for our guests. I do hope that your son and your family stay with us again and allow us to show you just how clean and enjoyable a stay at the Holiday Inn Downtown Johnstown can be. I also encourage your son to share his concerns at the time of his stay, not months after, so we can address any issues sooner rather than later.

Thank you again. I do hope to see your family soon!

We stay here every summer when in Johnstown for a music festival. It's very clean and the staff is very accommodating. The pool was remodeled in the last two years and is very nice. It truly feels like home away from home to me.

Stayed here for leisure puposes & had a wonderful experience. Very clean hotel, we always saw staff cleaning at all times of the day throughout the facility. We were welcomed with a goody bag when we arrived & the front desk staff were very courteous. Loved the decor throught the hotel, it had a very modern feel to it. We enjoyed the pool & especially the hot tub. We had a fantastic view of the local incline from our room & at night it's lit up with beautiful lights. Would recommend the hotels restaurant, great food & service. Alcoholic beverages were a little pricey. I will definately return to this hotel in the future, very enjoyable experience!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 6th floor, which gave us a better view of the town, would recommend a room with a v...

Because of business, I stay in this hotel repeatedly, and will continue to do so. It really is the only decent hotel in the downtown, and it is the only full-service hotel in the whole area (including the Richland/Windber retail strip). I think I've stayed at least 25 times, and my room has always been cleaned and appointed well. The restaurant serves up tasty fare -- a little pricey for the area, but not too bad. The decent swimming pool accounts for the hint of chlorine that greets you in the lobby. I agree with the one review that suggested it would be nice to upgrade the wireless capacity.

Room Tip: Stay away from the elevators, and make sure the room is not above the restaurant (or the banquet hal...
