Kennett House Bed & Breakfast
Reviewed 30 March 2013

Our stay at the Kennett House B&B was the perfect way to celebrate my 50th birthday. Gilja is a wonderful innkeeper and we love her laugh! We booked the Longwood Suite. It's a beautiful room and the bed is like sleeping on a cloud-so comfy! The location is ideal for seeing the local attractions. Gilja makes a killer mushroom omelet and fantastic french toast! We do not have one bad thing to say about our stay. We highly recommend her B&B and we are definitely going back this summer. Also we had an exceptional meal at Portabello's of Kennett Square. The shops and restaurants are within walking distance.

We had a wonderful getaway to the Kennett House Bed & Breakfast. The house is beautiful and so peaceful and quiet. Our room was the Brandywine which had a really comfortable bed. The private bathroom that is adjacent to the room had all the amenities you could wish for, including a nice big bathtub for a relaxing soak. Gilja is an excellent innkeeper and her breakfasts were delicious. We will definitely recommend this as a great place to stay. It is close to all the places you would want to visit in the Brandywine River Valley and we will be looking forward to staying here again in the future.

What a beautiful stay. Spent my 50th birthday with the most charming, calming, lovely lady who made a killer breakfast. She does everything right. Her home becomes yours and is absolutely magnificent and impeccably spotless. The bed was the best!

Pros:
Good location for sightseeing in the Brandywine Valley
Good breakfast, hostess goes out of her way to satisfy your tastes.
Cons:
Beware: the Brandywine bedroom does not have direct access to its own bathroom which is"adjacent"meaning you have to go out in the hall to get there.
At $160 a night(2nights minimum) this in my view is unacceptable.
Since the other bedrooms were occupied we were stuck there having had to pay before the bedroom was shown to us.
The house has a persistent kitchen/cooking odor rather unpleasant.

The beautifully-cared for 1912 home is an excellent choice for visiting the Brandywine Valley. A few blocks from Kennett Square's town center it offers easy access to the town's shops and restaurants and, more importantly, to the area's fabulous sites, Longwood Garden, Hagley and Winterthur to name just a few of interesting, and beautiful, places in the area. The Delaware Room is a particular joy with its porch-sitting room.

Beautiful house in walking distance from centre of town. The downstairs area has lovely reception rooms available to guests and all are framed in warm chestnut (floors, doors, windows etc) from when the house was built over 100 years ago. The upstairs had a small sitting area with fridge (comp drinks) and great books on Winterthur and the Wyeths (Brandywine).

We chose the Delaware room: the bed area was on the small side with not a lot of room but there was a separate sitting area with windows on three sides which was nice, though the TV was located there which might not suit people who like to watch TV in bed. Closet space was also quite limited and there wasn’t an iron.

Breakfasts were wonderful – discussed in advance and cooked to order. We had juice, ripe fresh fruit and eggs one day and French toast the next – I was sorry that we weren’t staying a third night to try the pancakes! Coffee was a bit weak for me. Dining room was lovely (that chestnut again!).

Minor issue with the bill was resolved without demur.

Would return in a flash and highly recommend.

This historic house is beautifully restored and full of period furnishings. The Longwood Suite was incredibly comfortable - lots of pillows, a separate sitting room with sofa, soft chairs in the bedroom, bathrobes, nicely stocked bathroom. Gilja, the innkeeper, is a sweet, highly intelligent person who warmly greets you and makes you feel at home. She cooks a wonderful breakfast!
