“Comfortable, Clean”
Reviewed 6 May 2005

Ended up choosing this hotel due to having the best price for the Brandywine Sampler Package offered by numerous hotels in the area. Asked for an early check-in or at the very least to be able to pickup the sampler package in order to make use upon arrival. The room was not ready, but was able to get the sampler package and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon. Room was very clean, new and comfortable. All rooms come with Micro, fridge and coffeemaker. I was also greeted with a goody bag and a coupon for a couple of water bottles in their pavilion. I found the staff to be friendly, but had to make comments/suggestions on their questionaire which I left at the front desk. 1st - the towel rack/bars are located in the shower, so if you want dry towels after showering you MUST move them somewhere else, then once used and needing a place to hang them you are stuck with drying off the wet rack or finding somewhere else for them to dry. 2 - If you plan to use either the A/C or heat and want privacy at night, good luck closing the drapes because they cover the HVAC unit. We had to smoosh them on top of the unit in order to attempt to close the drapes. 3 - no free local calls 4 - Applebees was a ripoff, food was cold and appeared to be microwaved (uh and remember no free call to Applebees which is right next to the hotel). The general manager is very concerned about peoples views of this hotel as she followed up my questionnaire with a phone call and made note of my suggestions. It shows to me that they really do care about their customers opinions.

Tired after a five-hour drive, we arrived at the hotel at 4:00. We were told the room wasn't quite ready yet (check-in time is 4:00.) Okay. Half an hour later, we inquire how much longer it will be, thinking we can at least send the kids to the pool. We are told it will be just five more minutes. After 15, my husband goes back to the desk, where he is told the room is now ready. He asked why he had to inquire again, when we were sitting within easy eyeshot and calling distance to the desk. The woman said that she wasn't the one who had told us there would be a wait. I said that I was upset that we had to wait so long, and got an eye roll from the woman behind the desk.

Other than that, the hotel is fine. Comfortable, clean, nicely appointed rooms.

Good location near Longwood and other attractions. Our room was attractively and comfortably furnished, and spacious. Sadly, it was fairly noisy. The people upstairs seemed to run constantly, and in the morning we were awakened by applause from meeting rooms nearby. (Who schedules meetings for 7 am?) The breakfast was fair to good: The fruit and muffins were excellent, the omelets superb, the danish stale, the sausages bland. Oh, but the pool and spa were delightful on a snowy evening! All in all, a good stay but not memorable.

We stayed at this Hilton Garden Inn for a couple of nights in July, and I was pleasantly surprised.

It appears very new, inside and out. The room was bright and cheerful, and nicely decorated. Apparently each room has a small fridge and microwave, which are part of a nice-looking wall unit.

Our rate included the full American breakfast, which was terrific! The chef will cook eggs, an omelet, etc. any way you'd like. There were also waffles, pastries, fruit, you name it.

This hotel is in a good location, close to several attractions. I'll definitely look for a Hilton Garden Inn again!

The Hilton Garden Inn looks nice on the outside but suffers from smug, untrained staff at the front desk. They renegged on a guaranteed rate then proceeded to insult us (the guests) who were not pleased with a surpise 50% surcharge for a 14 night stay. They claimed that it did not matter if we cancelled our reservation for the final 13 nights since the hotel "always was booked anyway". Then they assigned us to the noisiest room in the hotel -- in resposne to an initial request for a quiet room. There are MANY better alternatives in the area at equally good rates or better.
