Kangaroo tart: yum! The meat is different, little gamey at the end, but goes well on the tart with the goat cheese.
Smoked exotic mushroom bisque: Freakin super. A little smoky, a little spicy, a lot delicious
We made the mistake of getting some salads. I don’t know why. My wedge salad was underwhelming, and the spring salad I think was saved by some nicely spiced nuts. But, my advice: unless you’re really diggin a salad right that moment, head for the meat and mushrooms.
Sautéed exotic mushrooms: sounds good but I wasn’t thrilled. I think we left most of them on the plate. There was a lot of sauce that I feel like overtook everything on the plate. My review notes from that night say “eh” next to these so I know I’m not just remembering the experience poorly.
Nice little area, the waiter was nice, service was prompt. We enjoyed it for a date night.
I wanted to give it 3 stars, but I’m going with 4 because:
A. I can’t associate that soup with 3 stars. As I said, it’s super.
B. Extra points for being original and not screwing it up. Kangaroo tart was pretty dang good and probably could have been awful. Full points for taking some risks and putting things on the menu that might scare some people.
Would I go back? I wouldn’t go out of my way, but if I was there, I’d grab some soup and maybe try something I’ve never had before.
