“Camping”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

We enjoyed our stay at the Loose Caboose. We only stayed for a weekend as a spot to sleep while the monster trucks were running at the Buck. We had a campsite up in the back. Most of the sites are seasonal, and already had campers set up. We noticed that our water was turned off before our checkout time, which was slightly annoying. My son enjoyed the hiking trail and loved the train that comes through. I thought the bathrooms were clean, however, my brother did mention that the mens room utilized shower curtains to separate the toilets, which we found a little odd. Overall, it was very quiet, not many kids around. The playground is nice, but dangerously close to the road on a slope and made me a little nervous. The owners were incredibly helpful and nice. We were there in August of 2012, so the bathrooms may have been updated since then.

Use it as a travel jump point, not for a weekend of enjoyment. The photos of the campsites look really nice, but do not use this as your decision maker.
You need to take the time to go there, and take a look around at the sites and the facility.

I was there on July 5th, 2013, to look over the campground, and to see the sites. The office is in the Caboose, as you drive up. People seem friendly, gave us a map, and we were on our way.

To start off with, we are tent campers.........and we can adapt to mostly any site, or situation. But, not this place. Sure, it has the tree shade factor, but the only site that has any attraction is site A.
It is located next to the playground. Even though it has a smallish site, it has a view of the Amish buggies, the electric train, and occasional traffic. That in itself would give us something to do for a day.

Do your homework, and go there to see if it is what you are looking for, and if it suites your needs.
Most of the sites to the right of the map, are being overrun with vegetation. That is natural for woods such as these, but it takes away from your camping space, and should be cut back often.

The majority of these sites are unmarked, so take a pen and paper to keep track. A lot of these are seasonal sites, with units already in place. The lack of sunlight is the reason that many of these units have green fungus on their trailer sides.

As for the bathroom? The inside is fairly clean, but it is smallish. This is the first bathroom, that we encountered, that uses shower curtains for both the showers, and the toilets.

Since this campground is built on a hill side, outside activities are out. If you have young children, their round balls have to go somewhere, and it's mostly downhill (not to mention the dangers to children). Alcohol drinking adults will encounter the same problems.

The top tier of the campsites is a W.I.P. They show water locations, but nothing is marked as for sites. There is a large gravel pile at one site, but only dirt and mud at the others.
It is fairly easy to get to Intercourse, Strasburg, or the malls for shopping.

Do not just look at the photos. Make your camping weekends enjoyable by taking the time to look at any campground and what it has to offer. This way, any surprises will be minimal.

Best of camping, wherever you go.

we found part time owners and could not get a hold of them until they were off
they have no staff on full time and that is a big disadvantage
they have no set pricing and all the seasonal sites were differently priced
they have some poor eyesores in the campground that need to be removed
besides nickeling and diming you to death
we decided to move out as next year pricing was going up
cannot do business this way if they want to keep customers
