“A must eat at place when in Kutztown”
Reviewed 17 May 2012

Was told by several people, this was the place to eat, went there with my son, got a table with no problem. The waitress was friendly and well informed about the menu. I had a cheesesteak, w/ steak fries, my son had a grilled chicken sandwich. Both were Awesome!!! Also you must order the Fried Mozzerella!! Younger crowd, but not too loud. Can't wait to go back there in Sept!!!

“The historic building has great potential, but is a high-energy college party inside.”
Reviewed 24 April 2012

I remember having eaten at Basin Street 5+ years ago when I attended college in Kutztown, and having thought it was quite a classy place. When in the area, my husband and I recently decided to eat there for lunch. We were impressed by the great condition of the exterior, and the few outdoor tables that were filled with respectful patrons.
Inside, it was very poorly lit, which was a shame because of the impressive historic woodwork and other tasteful decor. The staff was very young, dressed in short shorts and tank tops, and very casual when taking our order. The inside patrons were also primarily college students, most of whom had just come from a sporting event and were crowding the bar, making it difficult to hear any conversation or move about safely/comfortably. The music was also cranked up very high, and was blasting high-energy pop music. My husband and I, who love to talk over meals, had no choice but to shout to each other in order to be heard over all of the noise. It was definitely not a relaxing lunch atmosphere - it seemed much more like a late-night college party.
The menu was very impressive, with a great variety of yummy-sounding sandwiches and hip sides. We ordered pot-stickers (only 4 small pot-stickers were served to us), a chicken wrap, a French dip sandwich, fries, and pierogies. We were disappointed with some of the portions, but the sandwich and wrap looked promising. Unfortunately, the beef on the French dip was extremely thick and tough, making it really difficult to eat.
The one great thing about college-town restaurants and bars is that they tend to have lower prices, and this one definitely did. Although the staff and food may not have done the building justice, I didn't feel that we were overcharged. If ever in the neighborhood, I'd be willing to give the place another chance as long as it was at a time when it wasn't so crowded, and as long as they respected my request to turn the music down (or at least to a better station!).

“Hit or miss - can be good, sometimes very good but.......”
Reviewed 26 August 2010

Sometimes the service is not the best, and because of that the food is not as hot as it could be; definitely a place for the younger generation.
