Loved the resort at Willowbrook...PLENTY of activities to keep everybody busy. I highly recommend the Whitewater Rafting Trip..it is fun for all and YES, you will get drenched! Very family oriented...staff was very pleasant and helpful especially Cheryl who gave us great conversation during our departure. The private beach was nice, the indoor and outdoor pool was great...no need for the overpriced water park! We stayed Sunday to Sunday and cooked most of our meals in the room and ate out ocassionally which worked out great for our wallet....closest Wal-Mart is about 18 miles away, there is a grocery store about 2 miles away. This was our 2nd visit here in 5 years, so we kinda knew our way around. There is a mall about 20 minutes away, but nothing to rave about. The room key cards are VERY sensitive....we had to reactivate them 3 times, thank goodness for duplicate cards! If you plan to go to the beach, bring chairs and blankets. Gets very chilling at night, it is the mountains afterall.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side have more of a "nature" view...lots of woods, grass and deer and ra...

Amazing, family oriented resort. Rooms are spacious and clean with fully equipped kitchen. Staff is extraordinary, ready to help you and accommodate. My special thanks to Ms. Linda at the reception desk that made sure that we feel comfortable. Resort is large and provides with variety of activities. Daily entertainments, games and activities will keep you busy. Water park is not that big, but again resort provides you with hot tub, pools and activities so no need to use a water park. For dining you have some options too, I cannot compliment taste of food, but if you are hungry and don’t wish to use kitchen, you can always find something to eat. There is a lake, mini golf, area for kids entertainment, an “artist” that makes caricatures, cannot complement him as he is offensively untalented towards little kids, arcades, bowling and even little movie theatre on the premises. I recommend this place to any family that wants great reasonable priced resort.

My husband and I worked at Split Rock as bartenders 24 years ago so we thought it would be good to stop by and see how it changed. Many things have stayed the same (Im not sure that's good or not) but there were many new things as well. They have a bowling alley, theater, indoor pool, mini golf course and many other amenties. We stopped off at 3 of the bars that we worked at. The pit bar is inside the main building. That bartender made the most horrible bloody mary in the world that was undrinkable. 2 other people at that bar but she was not interested in talking to anyone or making us feel welcome. A trip down the road to the sports bar where the bartender was at least friendlier. We didnt have a drink but went in to check it out. Pool tables take the place of what used to be seating. During our time it was a popular nightclub but it doesn't look that way now. A trip to the sand bar was enjoyable because the weather was beautiful, and a trio was playing outside. We sat there for drinks. I heard someone say that the sangria was very good but then I saw the container it was stored in and decided not too. It looked like it needed a good cleaning on the outside and to serve it the bartenders lifted the lid, pulled out a plastic cup from the inside, used it to scoop out the sangria and then drop it back in. Thanks but no thanks. Those bartenders although attentive were not very friendly and looked like they didn't want to be there. We wanted to do some mini golf but it was really crowded and we werent in the mood for waiting. THe worst thing was probably that the toll is now $1 (in our day it was a quarter) and you cannot redeem it at the bar or a few other places like the theater (they had a sign saying they didn't accept it). The indoor waterpark which is new seems to be open to everyone not just quests so you can go spend the day there which would be nice for a family with younger kids on a rainy day.

We spent 3 nights and 4 days at the resort.
Summary:
The staff is VERY friendly. Our kids (2 year old and 4 year old) had a great time playing in the water park, and the beach, but it is not that great for adults.

Water park: it is small compared to the ones we went to in Wisconsin. I am not sure it would be fun for older kids, as the water park is not very big. but it is great for young kids, it is easy for the adults to track the young kids.

Hotel: it is clean, but old. i had skin allergy in the room, not sure the cause. The hotel can definitely use an upgrade.

Food: disappointed. there are not that many choices.. the Italian food was BAD.. the fish was dry, and shrimp scampi didn't have any taste.. restaurants in the galleria didn't have much other than burgers, but turkey burger was good..
oh, we also tried Piggy's outside of the resort. it got great reviews, but I didn't think it was that good.. the sweetness sampler was just WAY too sweet for me..

oh, well, at least kids had a great time.. =) and overall, the trip was relaxing.. but I don't think we will be back there again..

Room Tip: I stayed in the slop side.. it was clean and quiet

TravelFoto, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience that you had at Split Rock Resort. We are happy to hear that you and your children enjoyed our facilities. I am disappointed to hear that it was not communicated properly that you could use the toll receipts at recreational activities such as bowling and mini golf. We appreciate your concerns and thank you for sharing them. We hope to see you and your family again.

We stayed a week at Westwood Villas. Check in was quick and efficient. The only minor complaint was being told they had run out of activity sheets. By the time new ones were printed the next day we had missed both the welcome party Sunday evening and orientation Monday morning.
The unit was a 2 bedroom townhouse that had obviously been refurbished recently. There was a full kitchen, electric fireplace, 2 1/2 baths a large whirlpool tub and a sauna. The unit was spotless. Our two complaints- no Internet service- a major inconvenience and no air conditioning in the 2 nd bedroom which led to harsh sleeping conditions during the heat wave .
There are tons of activities . There is a daily activity sheet that offers everything from organized games to trips, walks, trivia, bingo, horse racing etc. for children, adults or families. All are either free or available for a nominal cost. There are 2 indoor pools, a watermark , outdoor pool, indoor and outdoor tennis and basketball , bowling alleys, an arcade, racket ball, sand volley ball, socca, mini golf, there is a large swimming lagoon on lake Harmony. Many days a band was playing. There is a sand bar located on the beach and a concession from which you can rent various non motorized boats for 12 per person per hour. One caveat- bring chairs or blankets as chairs and lounges were scarce. Overall everything was well patrolled and kept clean. There is also a golf course and movie theater playing first run movies.
Food was average. There is a deli in the lodge near the beach that serves the typical burgers, sandwiches, salads. Prices were reasonable $5 for a cheeseburger with a bag of chips. One warning- soft drink prices throughout the resort are outrageous. $8.00 for a 2 liter $4 for a 20 oz $3 for 16 oz. we carried a small cooler and drank soft drinks purchased elsewhere. Bel Largo has a deck overlooking the lake. The Italian food was good, not great but the new chef is a defi tie improvement. The manager went out of his way to secure a table on the deck go us the night of the fireworks show. The newly reopened ice cream parlor served good ice cream . There is also a pizza place and sit down restaurant in the galleria. there is a restaurant at the golf course but we didn't try it.
All of the staff we encountered during our stay were very friendly and helpful. We used those toll receipts when we p,ayed mini golf and for horse racing without problem. Checkout was easy. They even held food for us in the refrigerator so we could enjoy a last day at the lake. Yes areas do show wear especially the galleria and lodge but they were kept clean. This is the pocono's so expect rustic. We had a good time, plan to return and would recommend split rock.

We visited Split Rock for the Pa. Winefest in June 2012. The hotel room was acceptable and clean. Our Slopeside view consisted of some trees and what looked to be a construction site. As part of our package dinner was included on the night of check-in, We went to the Bel'ago. The restaurant had a musty smell. Our waitress served the wine in our water glasses. I ordered shrimp scampi which was about the worst pasta I have ever had. It was simply a wad of spaghetti, a few shrimp, 2 whole cloves of garlic and the sauce was non-existant. We passed on dessert. When we got the cheque for dinner, it was way more than anticipated. We asked about this and were told that only the entree and dessert were included in the package..not the appetizer. This is information that should have been included in the welcome package. In all fairness, the folks at the hotel desk resolved the problem for us. Breakfast, on both days, was a buffet featuring cold food which should have been kept hot and stale pastries. We went to the Wine Pairing dinner on Saturday. What a mess. The serving staff rushed everyone through dinner which is not a good idea when so much wine is being served. At one point both of my two provided wine glasses were 3/4 of the way full, when more wine was presented. Upon asking our waitress for another empty glass, instead of providing it, she told me to dump out the wine in my glass in a plastic bucket on the table and then she would pour more. After being insistant, she finally provided the extra glass. As it was at beakfast, the food was served cold. When I returned home I sent an email to Split Rock Resort via their website. Received no response. I then called and spoke with the secretary to the general manager. She wasn't aware of an email option exsisting on the website. She assured me that she would let the manager know about my concerns and that he would definitely "get back to me". Well, that was 3 weeks ago and I have not heard from him. I felt compelled to review this resort in a negative way. The fact that a patron could have major concerns on what was a $720.00 weekend and not even be accorded a return phone call speaks volumes about the level of interest the manager takes in the property and guests. We will return to Split Rock next year as the Wine Festival is amazing BUT we will not be suckered into a "package" at this resort.
