I almost didn't book Split Rock because of all the bad reviews, but we took a chance and were glad we did. Yes, it's a bit dated and understaffed. And the there could be more professionalism in helping guests coordinate indoor and outdoor activities. But there were many good things. Our two-bedroom suite was huge and nice. The waterpark and pool were nice and also clean. Many are comparing it to Great Wolf. For the price, the Split Rock room was much bigger than GW and there were many more activities to keep the family busy after you're done with the water park. GW waterpark is bigger, but after you're done with that, there isn't as much to do.

Room Tip: The two-bedroom suite is a great deal for the price.

We are a family of four with two kids aged 7 and 10. We go on an annual Sunday to Monday trip to the Great Wolf Lodge in the poconos. We all love it but it's not cheap. We decided to give split rock a try as it was a much cheaper alternative. We had heard mixed reviews about it. Our kids gave it a 9 out of 10 stars. They loved the water park and the short lines for the water slides. The arcade and bowling alley were huge hits too. The indoor pool was a huge hit for our water loving kids. They made friends and played for hours while we relaxed and had a cocktail or two. The hotel is a little dated in terms of decor(think lots of brass!) but very clean with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. We would definitely go back.

I traveled to the split rock lodge in off season to attend a dance competition for 3 nights. Our 2 bedroom suite was located in the gallery. The rate was $250 per night. when we arrived there was 2 women at the front desk both with extremely bad teeth. The doors did not have a sensor to open automatically . This was frustrating because I had three little kids with me. The place looks like it was built in 1982 and has not been touched since. The rooms were the awful. The one nice restaurant smelled like an old bowling ally and the pizza place was double the $ of what you could order a normal pizza at. I awoke at 5:30 to walk down to get coffee and no one was open until 7am. The coffee was $2 each and poured out of a carafe that was sitting there until it was gone. I have NEVER written a review but this was so awful I thought I'd better tell others. We did travel with about 80 others and everyone felt the same I did. One other family we knew stayed at the Holiday Inn down the road which apparently was MUCH nicer and they offered continental breakfast.
The water park is a JOKE too. DO NOT DO IT. I am only going to give this a 1 star because I have to give it something or I can not submit it.

Room Tip: Save your money and go elsewhere.

We just finished our trip to Split rock this weekend. We found the resort to be great and traveling with an * year old there was plenty for him to do. The water park was something that he will remember for a very long time. Even without the water park there is so much that is included for free.I had a few problems that were nobody's fault but my own and the staff was able to go above and beyond to help me. Carol Wielicki and Karen Marino truly saved my vacation and are a big part of me returning in the future. Split rock resort you should be very proud of your employees and how they go out of the way to ensure the best vacation possible.

Room Tip: Willowbrook suites are the way to go !!!!

Our Family just spent an overnight trip at the resort. We booked the wate rpark package. Upon check-in, we were just given the room keys, and not provided with any other information regarding the resort, restaurants or given our water park passes. The staff was not helpful at all. My husband had to return and get our water park passes. We stayed in the Galleria, in a 2 room suite. The room was dated, but large, with amble room for 2 adults and 3 children. We found crumbs on a night table, and hairs in the bed. The water park itself was great, we all enjoyed. After spending the day in the water park, I stopped by the desk to get information regarding our dining options. Online it looked like there were a few options that would work. Trying to get information from the person at the desk, was like pulling teeth. I asked for information regarding the restaurants and was provided with a map, they had no menu information, no information regarding reservations. One restaurant is in the Galleria building, the other, and Italian restaurant is located in the Lodge building, which you have to drive to. We found out there is a shuttle that runs between the buildings, but again, the desk is did not provide this information. Our group decided on Italian, got in the card and drove to the other building. At this point, it was 8pm. We walk in, and notice a dated restaurant, with 3-4 tables with people. The woman told us it would be a while, at least a 1/2 hour before someone could get us food. I must have looked confused, because her explanation was that "she" just feed 50 people upstairs in an event room. We left, and headed back to the Galleria, to go to the Smokehouse restaurant. Again, it is fairly empty, we sit, and place an order for appetizers, and are Again told it will be a while before they will come out, because they just sat a table with 15 people. I have never heard of anything like this. The food was ok, once we got it. Some items we enjoyed, others were not good. This dining area is also dated. Yes the hotel is dated, but that is not the worst part. The lack of costumer care is atrocious. The place has potential, the water park, and the ice cream shop were great. They also have a cute movie theater and bolwing alley(which we did not use). Its also in a nice location. Someone needs to come in and overall the whole place, staff and the buildings.

This is the second time we've visited Split Rock, and we had such a good time with our 8yr old son. In one day, we were able to play in the water park, watch turtle races in the lounge area, go bowling, enjoy the ice cream parlor, play in the arcade, and watch Captain America: Winter Soldier all under one roof.

Our favorite part of the resort is the water park. It has three big water slides, but they're not too big or scary for young kids. There is a wave pool, a surfing simulator, a water play structure with smaller slides, two hot tubs, water basketball, and a few other activity areas. Everything in the water park looks modern and clean. The water temperature and air temperature were just right. The lines for the slides were very short. We stayed in the water park from 10am to 5pm, and had a great time.

I also really enjoy the food. It's not gourmet, but you have a lot of options. In the lobby there is a pizza shop, but they also serve really good hot sandwiches, wings, and burgers. The Steakhouse Grill is standard sit-down faire, and has good burgers. The counter service in the water park has what I would call "amusement park food," but I happen to like that kind of thing! This time, we visited the ice cream parlor, which was awesome! The ice cream was terrific, and it has an old wooden phone booth and other decorations that my son really enjoyed.

Finally, I think it is so cool that they have a tiny theater that plays first run movies. The picture quality is okay, and the sound is a little static-filled, but my son loved getting to see a movie late at night, then walk straight up to bed without stepping outside. It's just a cool experience.

We definitely want to visit again!

Not nearly as bad as some of the reviews made it out to be. Stayed here for a week through a time share exchange. Its definitely not as updated as some other properties, but its clean and comfortable. Can't speak to how uncomfortable the beds were, as we travel with a memory foam pad. The hallways do get a bit noisy with kids of all ages running up and down the halls. Everything was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful. The pool wasn't bad...like everything else, it was clean but in need of an update. The arcade is fun, and it was easy to accumulate enough tickets for decent prizes. Didn't bother to try much of the on site food, but the pizza is pretty good. WiFi connection wasn't always fantastic in our room, but it worked well enough.

Room Tip: Our suite's king bed was further from the hallway, and therefore further from the noise. I imagi...
