“Pleased we went on the Wheatland Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

I can' t add anything new or different to the good reviews already posted here, but I did want readers to know that my husband and I are two more very satisfied customers. We would recommend the 10 min. movie and 1 hour tour to all our friends and family. We also took a walk and enjoyed the architecture in the surrounding neighborhood of lively old homes. Lancaster is a nice town to visit.

“Extremely interesting tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014

We were visiting Lititz, PA and just prior to arriving, we found out about Wheatland and knew we had to stop here and are very glad we did. The folks in the reception center are extremely nice and helpful. Over at the mansion, our tour guide was a gentleman named Ken Rankin who was dressed in clothing from that era. The tour was one hour long and Mr. Rankin did an awesome job. He allowed time for questions in each room and knew nearly all the answers off the top of his head. He made the tour very informative and enjoyable. I am very glad we found about this place and more glad that we did the tour. Well worth it.

“Well Worth Visiting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

I watched the brief introductory film and took the guided tour of this property. The guide was pleasant, knowledgeable, and interesting, and she gave me a good insight into the personal and political life of James Buchanan. As one of the lesser-known presidents, the tour allowed me to gain insight into the issues prevalent during Buchanan's term in office which set the stage for the Civil War.

“Docent brings life to the house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

We knew very little about Buchanan. Our docent gave a lively presentation with lots of interesting information while getting across the importance of President Buchanan in pre-civil history. Approximately 60% of the furnishings were owned by Buchanan. The grounds are a peaceful place with wonderful tall trees to sit under in what is basically a suburban neighborhood. Wheatland is associated with Lancaster county museum which we did not visit.

“Bachelor President”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

I am surprised that the story of James Buchanan has not already been made into a blockbuster movie. It has all the elements: political intrigue, true love tragically lost, orphans adopted by their bachelor uncle. In the time before the Civil War, it has been said that President Buchanan did nothing.. the truth is... his laid back demeanor proved to be what was necessary in giving time for the union to marshal and train troops for the coming war.

Beside the history lesson you will walk the aboritum on the grounds enjoying and learning about the many identified trees and shrubs.

The small bookstore and gift shop is a treasure trove of Pennsylvania Dutch arts & crafts. Be sure to see the museum that includes an abundance of
Fractur.

there are many Antique Shops and local restaurants on the back roads. Tons of fun if you can take the time to explore.
