“Great insight into history”

Visited this historic home and did not know what to expect. Had a private tour by the director and certainly learned a lot about the history of our country and the people that made it what it is today. Fascinating home and wonderful insight into General Edward Hand. Certainly worth your time.

“A jewel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2014

This lovely pre-colonial era home is a worthwhile stop in Lancaster. The original owner was a friend of Washington, and there are a few Washington artifacts in the home. It is furnished with beautiful period pieces, and the docent was lively and informative. Interestingly, the home did not get electricity or plumbing until the 1940's, and was never really modernized, so everything is authentic. The setting in a large park is beautiful, and there was a herd of deer on the lawn while I was there. The home is not huge by plantation standards, so small children would not be too bored by a visit. Definitely worth a stop!

The plantation is absolutely stunning in its architecture, landscaping, and location. We will undoubtedly be back in the Spring. Truly a must see for anyone in the area.

“Beautiful piece of history.”

After almost giving up we found it and didn't want to leave.

The guide and other staff were warm and knowledgeable. So much history and old wolrd charm around every corner.

Even my son was entertained. He really wantes to know why couldn't we move in...if only. If only. We will certainly be back in the summer to enjoy the grounds too.

“A colonial treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

This plantation, deep in the heart of the county park, is a lovely colonial-era home. There are occasional tavern nights, with costumed interpreters, musicians, Martha Washington's fishhouse punch, appropriate foods, and traditional games. What a great time to be had!
