“Pretty, but noisy”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

About the hotel and room: The hotel is right next to Franklin & Marshall and close to the rest of downtown Lancaster. There is a restaurant inside (where we attended a wedding) that serves dinner. The only thing that stuck out to me about the room other than the decor was that it had a shower and not a bath tub.

The good: Nice, attractive hotel with artwork from local artists. Staff is pleasant, lobby is nice and is nicely decorated. Rooms were cool looking and had a hair dryer, lots of toiletries, and bottled water. The free breakfast was okay. There were bagels, waffles (that you had to toast), hard boiled eggs, cheeses, and breakfast burritos you had to microwave.

The bad: We were on the second floor and it was very noisy. We could hear people outside during all hours of the night (listened to a particular conversation about a guy yelling at his partner on the phone). We could also hear people in all of the rooms around us, including above us. You can hear conversations, their movements, their steps, them... "loving" each other...
I personally couldn't sleep well because of the noise plus I found the pillows uncomfortable. I also felt like there were price tags on everything, including a rose they give you at night ($5 for a rose in a plastic IV bag looking container) and even the hotel/Lancaster information booklet ($40?!).

When my wife told me that she booked a weekend at this hotel, I was not happy.. I envisioned a country hotel with patchwork quilts and printed fabrics on the wall. Upon entering this marvel of hotel, I realized that I was wrong. The ingenuity of combining an old building that functioned as a tobacco warehouse with a modern open airy hotel is just amazing. The combination of wooden beams with wine coolers in the room is perfect... Artwork everywhere... the message of "be inspired" , The restaurant is a gem with a great menu.. Strong WIFI, great showers, guest pass to the Y across the street, Now to the breakfast... I read some complaints about the breakfast which I say "rubbish", great selection of muffins cereals waffles, eggs, yogurt, fruits... my only complaint is "the coffee is somewhat weak". So anyone who will complain about this hotel will be messing with me as in the movie "you mess with my family you mess with me"...Great and helpful staff...

Recently stay at The Lancaster Arts Hotel in an Arts Suite. The pictures describe it best. Love the brick inside the room and the original hard wood floors, but be prepared with the noise from above with hardwood floors. Loved the bathroom especially the abundance of towels provided. Check in was seamless and I was surprised to see the flowers and champagne when we got in the room. We used the restaurant on the premises food was pricey and just ok. Based on prior reviews we skipped the breakfast and went to the Sunday champagne Brunch at Eden Rock Best Western and that was incredible. If you want to be close to the art district this may not be the right hotel. Overall loved the room and will visit again

I am not sure how anyone could find anything wrong with this lovely inn. It is well appointed with comfortable beds, interesting and varied lighting and a cozy decor with natural elements but a hip urban vibe. A single rose was a lovely surprise,a sketch pad for doodling, and a double sink large bathroom with lush towels. The bed was comfy and the room was a nice size for the two of us. Complimentary breakfast was presented nicely and was ample with a variety of choices. The staff is most pleasant at the desk as well as the bar. We did not eat at the restaurant, but the menu seems eclectic and interesting. If you are looking for a spa or pool, then do your homework before you travel! This is a sophisticated and inviting place to stay for business or pleasure.

The rooms are nicely appointed and preserve the old warehouse look. Charming! The beds were very comfortable. There were some maintenance issues though. The grout in the shower was not done well. The vacuuming between the rustic old floorboards was not thorough. The internet had some problems when I was there and the television was very difficult to use because changing channels was so slow (I am therefore not impressed with Direct TV.)The noise was something to account for as the walls seem thin. Clientele made the noise less of a problem the second night. All in all a pleasant if not perfect stay.

The hotel is clean, attractive, well situated for a Lancaster trip but noisy! Staff are very pleasant. Parking is do it yourself in a garage attached to the hotel. My room was attractive with a comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom, but an annoying mechanical noise kept me awake, and no, it wasn't the heat/cooling unit cycling on and off. The ear plugs provided by the hotel made little difference. Traffic noises from the road were loud during the morning as well. The food in the John J. Jeffries restaurant is very good, but the restaurant has a loud weekend bar scene. Eat in your room. The free breakfast buffet is tasteless-- generic bread, pastries, fruit with no flavor, but good coffee. Get your breakfast at the Mean Bean coffee shop next door instead.

Room Tip: Get a room on the back side of the hotel far from elevator, mechanical room and garage, and bring a...

Our trip from NY to PA included beautiful fall foliage and perfect weather.

Upon arriving at the Lancaster Arts hotel, they have on-site parking (always a plus), several small eateries next to the parking lot, and a great restaurant on site, John J. Jeffries. We dined at the restaurant for dinner, the staff was great and the food excellent.

Our room was very nice, not too big not too small, nice brick wall, great storage, coffee machine, fridge, wine chiller, wine glasses ice bucket etc. Only complaint is about the bathroom. nice size, well stocked, great products. french doors. that dont quite lock.
so. if you are inside the bathroom with the fan on you cant hear anything outside. if you are inside the bathroom without the fan on, you cant hear anything. either way, whoever is in the rest of the room can hear EVERYTHING thats going on while you are in there.Fair warning.

The room took a while to warm up, but it may have been me bc i didnt make it too high, just wanted to take the edge off.

overall, i would return on my next visit to Lancaster, absolutely.
