Ben and Mrs Too returned to Lancaster, PA enticed by a piano concert with the very, very talented Lancaster Symphony at the historic Fulton Opera House and Theater, just a short cab ride away.

We were greeted warmly by a gracious young lady, for the second time in a row. We explained that we had tickets to the concert, with a three o’clock curtain. Since their check-in time was also three o’clock, we wondered whether we might park in their garage, take a cab to the opera house, and really truly check in later, she, as unfazed as though we had simply asked the time, replied, “Of Course”. A query as to whether she might summon a taxi for us evoked the exact same reply. Off we went to a wonderful experience at the concert hall, and back we came to sign the registration and pick up our key cards.

Our room was spotless, commodious and well furnished. The hotel, a cleverly re-purposed nineteenth tobacco warehouse, features original eight by eight wooden beams, and exposed brick interior walls. The “Arts” theme is carried out throughout every turn, even to the point of supplying a sketch pad in every room and an invitation that guests leave behind whatever doodling or true sketching they might have done. These are actually taped to the walls of the elevator cabs for a while, then replaced by others. Some of the more serious art along the hotel corridors is strictly first rate.

As a different form of art, there is really and truly a spinet piano in the exterior portico of the lobby. When Ben and his beautiful young bride of sixty years come June, arrived, Ben said “You’ve lost your piano”. He was told that just the day before it had been removed for the winter, but would be available for guests to play come warm weather.

After dinner we retired, enjoyed a restful night’s sleep on superb bedding, and awoke to make coffee we served in real china cups. Breakfast is included in the room charge, and features the unique pancake making machine we have described in a previous review. Ben wishes sincerely that he could show you this gem in action, but for some unfathomable reason Trip Advisor no longer permits travelers to post videos. Don’t ask me why.

Loved our stay here and the rather lovely touch of walking into the loft room with the rose and chocolate on the pillow. Great restaurant too and staff all very helpful. Décor and history of the hotel all very interesting.

My husband and I booked a block of rooms at Lancaster Arts Hotel for our wedding guests the weekend of 10/14 - 10/15 and wow were we happy! The staff was very helpful and friendly, streamlining the check-in and out process for our guests. And all of our guests could not stop commenting on how beautiful and interesting the historic hotel was! Several of our guests were talking about coming back to this hotel for a weekend getaway in the future. We could not be more pleased with this hotel and it's unique, architectural features. They helped make our big day perfect!

Room Tip: Suite rooms are the perfect size for getting the bridal party ready the day of

I rarely leave reviews on hotels, but just had to rave about our stay in Lancaster. This hotel, while very reasonable, has amenities and extras that one associates with much higher-priced hotels. The service is excellent, friendly, and helpful. The breakfast buffet is varied and appealing. The room furnishings, bed, bathroom, and appointments are comfortable and convenient. We loved the original decor of this former tobacco warehouse, which incorporates its industrial history of brick, stone, wide-board flooring, and exposed wood beams ten-inches square, like you have never seen before! Yet everything one wants to be modern and convenient certainly is. Art flourishes on the walls, and guests are invited to sketch and leave a drawing for their albums of amateur art. We took advantage of the free guest pass to the YMCA across the street to workout, and were very pleased with the facilities there. If I am ever back in Lancaster, I know where I will stay!

We'd had a fairly traumatic drive to Lancaster so needed a great hotel room to relax and get over it! And boy, did we find it. We were allocated one of the loft rooms of this converted tobacco factory, which came with two sofas, swivel TV, kitchen area, delightful bathroom...almost a condo in fact. It was frustrating that our itinerary only had us there was one night. Only negative was a pretty mean breakfast bar, though it was included in the price.

Room Tip: Check out the loft rooms - you'll not be disappointed
