I met a friend here for dinner. Lovely entranceway with a fire in the fireplace. I was thrilled to see sausage rolls on the menu for starters. They were excellent and a perfect size to share. We had fish and chips for our main course, and it was so-so.

The rest of the menu looks very inviting, and if I am in Lititz again, I will definitely return to give the menu another chance.

We decided to spend our Valentines Day dinner at the General Sutter because we normally have such a wonderful time there. They only had a 9:00 reservation, but we decided to take it because we knew it would be worth the wait. When we arrived the lobby was so crowded and chaotic we could barely fit. We checked in twice with the front desk but couldn't be seated. Finally at 9:10 I went to the front desk again to ask about our table and the response I got was "Oh yeah, we've been looking for you." By this time we were so hungry we could barely stand it. When we were finally given a menu it was a "special" menu with only three entrees on it. I didn't eat any of them so we had to get up and leave. It was extremely disappointing. We will now be avoiding the General Sutter for special occasions. They clearly couldn't handle the amount of people they had and ignored the people who actually had reservations.

We were here a few years ago, and this was a top-of-the-line fine dining restaurant. The inn has moved very much more toward the bar crowd. The menu includes less expensive things, and we had a couple tables near us with families with kids that were a bit noisy. The bar was very crowded with lots of people having good loud fun, but it just didn't fit well with what we expected of this dining room.

Wish we had a better experience. We went right after Christmas on a Thurs night, and it wasn't totally full, and for 4 people the dinner took over 2 and a half hours. Why? We could almost never catch our waiter's attention. We had to flag down 2 separate other staff just to get a fourth silverware setting (after appetizers were served, one person couldn't eat his for about 10 minutes) and to get more tartar sauce; that person's fish got cold before it ever came. The atmosphere was lovely, the food delicious (get the beer cheese dip) & big portions, good prices-- you can order pub food in the "fancy" restaurant, very nice option. But we waited so long to get through the whole dinner, I was reluctant to (and didn't) leave a good tip. If they could get the service part going, I would rate it much higher.
