My husband and I took three of our grandchildren for a trip to Lancaster this week. We stayed at the Airy Hill Farm, and were transformed, if only temporarily. The kids, ages 9, 7 and 3, were expecting to feed animals, we thought it would be like a petting zoo. It was so much more. When we arrived, Hazel and Mark showed us our room, the garden room, with the tree house beds, and the kids loved it, along with the snacks which are out on the counter all day long. We quickly went to the creek and fished with nets, standing in mud and getting wet and dirty. They caught, and released, two crayfish, three tadpoles and many little tiny fish. Talking to Hazel and Mark, while the kids played marbles, seemed like something out of another time. There was a TV in the room, but nobody seemed to notice that it was not blaring I-Carly or Doc McStuffins. The next day, we did everything that the website shows, eggs from chickens; alpacas and dorpers fed, and mini-horses brushed and walked. The kids were delighted. If I could change anything about our visit, I would stay another night. Our grandchildren adjusted immediately to life from a simpler time. They had freedom to run on the 20 acre farm, they played with toys from another era, and they observed a way of life that can only be seen in Lancaster. Thanks.

- Airy Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast is a strikingly beautiful retreat. Sheep pastures wrap the hillside house and gardens, which overlook woodland and a stream in one direction and mountains and farm fields in the other. The clean-lined house takes full advantage of the site. A vaulted ceiling and bank of windows in the main living area bring the outdoors in, while decks and porches invite guests back outside. Soft, earth-toned wall colors change with the progression of light. Family antiques and art pieces combine with a fresh modern layout. ... more less
