What a shame this lovely building no longer houses a restaurant. I can't imagine what happened. The renovations were well done and the cuisine quite appealing.

“Slow”

Slowest service ever, and the wait was not worth it. I don't recommend this place

“Gracious Hosts”
Reviewed 18 October 2011

Although they weren't open for dinner, the bar keep was very helpful with local area suggestions to dine at.

“Very good food, friendly management and staff, and never overly crowded”
Reviewed 24 June 2011

I had written a review a while ago based on a negative experience. Since then I have been back twice with different people. I must say that my recent experiences have been awesome. I've tried the duck risoto, french onion soup, and a a very tasty smoked pork chop saltambucca. Their desserts are good too. I highly recommend the Railroad house now. Great, vintage atmosphere.

“The signs aren't just for show”
Reviewed 1 June 2010

This is a nifty joint with interesting history. Don't let the outside signs fool you: as authentic to the era as they seem, they really are meant to direct you into the correct entrance. (When you go, you'll see what I mean.)

Service was very good. All staff were friendly and easy to talk with. The average age of diners was on the high side, which worried me. I keep finding older diners = mushy veggies. Menu was interesting an modern.

We ordered the frog leg appetizer. Dipping sauce was good. They were fried nicely but no seasoning. I had the cedar plank salmon. Mixed feelings there. The flavor was good but it lacked the cedar/smoked taste and it was raw in the thickest part. The accompanying creamed spinach was delicious but a little tough to eat because it wasn't chopped. (Think cream whipping around on loose ends of whole spinach.) The crab cake had a lot of meat but could've used more seasoning. Beer selection was limited.

Music was awful. Would've liked to have been offered the outside dining because that did look enchanting. If the weather is nice and you see the 'patio is open' sign, I'd suggest trying it out. The courtyard looked lovely.
