Were a little disappointed with the room after seeing another when the door was open.
Our room was very dark as the blind could not be moved up. There was no wardrobe just a coat stand to hang clothes on, also for a 5 star hotel you might expect a phone or clock and there were no tissues in the room either. But the bed was very comfy.
The food was very good however, for our visit over here we were not expecting such a good breakfast, but this was excellent.

Room Tip: Go for a better room, ours was a two single beds, not sure what the others were as a very small hote...

Visited on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. Food and ambience as good as ever with the carvery being one of the best I have ever had. A wide choice of joints beef, lamb. pork, gammon and you could have whatever you wanted. Very good portions no scraping on the meat here! Great choice of vegetable and all round a super roast. The service however was very poor. Drinks service was slow which you can understand on a very busy Sunday but meals turning up at differing times is simply not acceptable and not something that you expect here. It wont put us off as we have had many good meals here over the years and I am prepared to put this down as an off day. Guys tell us things are going to be a bit slower than normal and we will understand but please don't bring us meals several minutes apart please.

I stay at the Percy Arms regularly now, and do so because the effort and care the staff take to make sure you have a pleasant, relaxing stay is fantastic. The food is consistently excellent and the accommodations and the feel of the whole place are wonderful. They've made me "take away breakfast" and left it outside my door when I had to leave early in the morning and even came out and scraped my car windows when it had iced over in the night this last winter... Really?? Highly recommend.

Room Tip: The rooms on the street can be a bit more noisy if you're sensitive to that. Also book early, ro...

Bizarrely... This is obviously a popular place so for a start you would think more staff would be employed at busy times like weekends. We arrived at about 3pm on a sunny Saturday, only about half the tables were filled, and judging by the amount of debris on these tables most people had eaten... The other free tables also had numerous empty plates and glasses on them. We ordered drinks, lager had run out which was most odd. We then ordered food, just a burger and ribs, now, as mentioned, it seemed most people had eaten and in the 50 minutes that we waited for our food only one main course came out and one desert. At this point we were rather fed up and didn't want to order another drink without food. On going inside we were met with a surly don't care attitude that we wanted to cancel and have a refund. We were informed that the menus said that at busy times food could be 40 mins... We were at 50 mins at least... Would not go back and would not recommend, for the attitudes alone..

I was told that this was a great place to eat well cooked food at realistic prices........sadly it's not true. Having paid over £40 for two drinks, one burger and one half rack of ribs the 50 minute wait was a big let down so when I asked where the food was the reply was abrupt and rude so we got our money back and left - appalling place with appalling staff!!

We ordered cheese and pickle sandwiches because you can't order fish and chips from the main menu if you sit in the garden. It was a Tuesday lunchtime during the school Easter holidays and we waited 45minutes. They do say on the menu waiting time may be up to 40minutes during busy times but it wasn't that busy and we only ordered cheese and pickle sandwiches! We heard two other groups of people complaining about the wait as well. I wouldn't recommend going there during a genuinely busy time unless you are prepared for a long wait.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Percy Arms. The owners were helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived (checking in early to drop our bags off prior to rushing off to a wedding).

The room was spacious and comfortable and both decorated and equipped to a really high standard.

The South African theme mentioned by others in their reviews had rung a few warning bells, but in fact is tastefully executed through subtle fabrics choices and not so subtle, but still great art work.

I don't think I've had a better night's sleep in a hotel for a long time (despite being above an obviously successful pub/restaurant, you couldn't hear a thing).

Breakfast was delicious and well presented. The SA twist on my eggs benedict was wonderful and my husband was delighted with his South African cooked breakfast. Everything was in generous portions and served beautifully.

I think we will be looking for an opportunity to make it to the Percy Arms again, this time for a longer stay!
