Very friendly and attentive staff who really look after you. I wasn't sure which wine to have so was able to sample two and was pleased that both that were recommended by staff were house wines. Both very good. Had asparagus from the specials board to start and pork from the menu as a main. Both very good. Good selection of food. All well cooked and portions just right. Very good night.

An impromptu visit to the Shoulder of Mutton at Kirkby Hill for lunch on Saturday turned out to be one of our best choices.
We were greeted warmly, the beer was good and the food was first rate. Menu choices are great, catering to all tastes without being overly long or pretentious and the service was excellent - friendly and observant but not intrusive. But the real star of the show here is the food; all really well cooked and beautifully presented. We all agreed it was the best pub meal in years. Highly recommended.

We are staying at the natural retreats in Richmond for the weekend,so upon deciding to eat out last night I turned to the trusted trip advisor for recommendations for some good hearty pub grub.
It recommended the "The shoulder of Mutton inn"being number one of the restaurants in this area.
When I phoned to book the landlady explained there were two pubs of the same name so make sure we went to the the right one(on Kirkby hill).
Upon arrival we were immediately welcomed by two roaring fires and a packed bar!
The land lady personally came out to welcome us and make sure we had arrived o.k.
She explained they had a bar menu but also an al'carte menu and you could choice from either or mix and match, she said the food was good pub grub, with man sized portions.
She was not wrong!
She explained because all the food was made fresh to order there may be a wait ,but the lads enjoyed trying all the local ales while we waited.
The food was amazing,I had scampi and the portion was massive. All the others really enjoyed there meals too.
We felt there was a lovely welcome by the landlady ,she had every table under control and also greeted everyone who came into the pub.
This pub is defiantly a must if you are anywhere near the area, please make the effort and go,you will not be disappointed.

We had taken our son and his fiance away for a couple of day's, we called in here on the Thursday evening for dinner, it has a warm and comfortable atmoshere and the landlady is really cheerful and friendly. Samantha is kind of fussy at times so she just wanted a cheese omelette which they made for her and she said it was fantastic. Two of us had the homemade chicken pies whilst Simon had sausage and mash. We'd all had starters and 3 of us had sweets. The portion sizes where excellent all the ingredients were possible are sourced locally. If you had coffee your cup was kept topped up. Everything was excellent including the service. The only down side is that due to the age of the building it is not completly disabled friendly, luckily Sam was having a good day so she was using her crutches, if however she'd been in her wheelchair the toilets would not have been accessible for her.
