“Always the best!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

I had a difficult decision to make when I was there this past Saturday evening. The Schmoozer or a chopped herring platter. I opted for the Schmoozer. You simply can't go wrong with a corned beef and pastrami special! Complement it with matzah ball soup, a knish, and of course, their pickle bar and you have yourself a feast fit for royalty! It was fantastic! You can't go wrong!

“This place rocks!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

This was my second visit to Hymies and it has to be the closest NY deli restaurant in Philly. I ordered the Yeller with a heaping portion of tender brisket covered with provolone inside a french roll and served with a side of au jus. This sandwich was amazing, hearty and got me excited about my next visit! Last time, I ordered the pastrami and it was awesome. They have a great pickle bar to choose from 10 different types to accompany your sandwich. My friend ordered the whitefish salad and the portion was so much she got the rest for another meal. Great deli!

“Best deli sandwiches ever!”

After a ten minute wait on a Saturday morning, we were not disappointed. The best sandwiches ever. Enjoyed the pickle bar too! HUGE cake slices.

“Terrible experience at an old favorite!”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

Visited Hymies two nights ago for the first time in years with a visitor from out of town. What a disappointment! We ordered 3 salads and EVERYONE of us got the wrong salad. Not only did we receive the wrong salads, but the salads were made incorrectly with the wrong ingredients; i.e. Granny Smith apples were red rather than green LOL, 2 of the salads had no cheese when they were supposed to have cheese and the 3rd salad was not supposed to have cheese, but it had cheese. The “house dressing” tasted like an ingredient went bad and was extremely sour and bitter. The lopsided salad bowl on a napkin made cutting difficult as the bowl and napkin slid across the plate. The flashy look was negated by the difficulty in eating from the bowl.

The pickle bar added nothing to the dining experience. The pasta was bland and oily, the red diced tomatoes tasted like they came out of a can, not even as good as flavored canned tomatoes. The beets were bland while the star pickles or cucumbers had no flavor except the dill pickles.

Three incorrect meals and the best that could be done was deducting 1 meal from the bill.

Oh yeah, talk about cutting costs all salads are the EXACT same ; Garden salad = Tossed salad = Mixed Greens.
When I asked the manager about this, he had no explanation other than “I’ll inform management.” (If all lettuce combinations are exactly the same, then they should call it like it is rather than pretending they have different lettuce combinations.)
