A weekend with friends to see Suzanne Vega at the Minack Theatre. We received a very warm welcome, had excellent rooms and lovely breakfast, just like being at home. Good job the B & B was friendly there was a thunder storm Saturday night and the concert was cancelled! However, it was still worth the trip.

We have visited Chris in Rockridge House (Porthcurno) 4 or 5 times now over the past 7 years or so. We first visited Porthcurno and stayed at Rockridge House before we had children - it provided us with a perfect base to explore this beautiful area - so many stunning beaches, villages, coastal paths, shops, museums, galleries to discover. All the rooms are spotlessly clean and provide everything you need and Chris's breakfasts are the best - you don't need to eat for the rest of the day! We returned with our 3-year old twin boys and used the family room which was great (kids LOVED the bunk beds) but slightly restricting for a young family in terms of space if the weather is not so good and facilities (although Chris kindly let us use space in his fridge for packed lunch essentials). This year we returned again (now with 5 year old twins) and used Chris' newly converted basement flat. This was perfect. All the self-catering facilities you need with a young family - TV, DVD, washing machine, bunk beds (!), fridge, freezer, hob etc etc and very good value for money. We were quite lucky with the weather but on not-so-good days we could spend a few hours watching a DVD or playing games indoors.
Please don't let the few negative reviews put you off - Chris provides a warm, welcoming home which he shares with you. We'll be back!

Room Tip: If you have young children, use the self-catering flat.

I spent a weekend with friends (GandC25) at Rockridge House recently, I'm the one who was taken ill and spent the night at the Royal Cornwall Hospital followed by two weeks in the Royal Gwent with pneumonia.

The house is spotlessly clean and the rooms are very comfortable, the location is perfect just a short walk to one of the best coves you will ever find, close to the Cable Museum and ideal for the Minack.

For me Chris was fantastic he is relaxed and does not issue you with a list of do's and don'ts you are free to come and go as you please all Chris asks is that you respect his other guests.

Breakfast was superb with a good selection of cereals, fruit juices and a wonderful full English thou I could not convince Chris that Black Pudding is a joy to eat!

To sum up if you want to stay somewhere that is clean, comfortable, ideally located and with somebody who is relaxed and more importantly makes you feel relaxed don't hesitate to book a stay at Rockridge House.

Many Thanks Chris.

If you're looking for a traditional B/B then this is probably not for you. I can understand the mixed reviews below, as you will either warm to Chris' personality and the way he delivers the service, or it will turn you off. My wife and I stayed for one night while walking the Coast Path. It was different. A couple of things that might put some off: no keys are issued for rooms (or indeed the front door)...or at least we didn't get one at any rate; and the breakfast is provided in the owner's kitchen around a communal table with other guests - not to my taste, but my wife didn't seem to mind (as i say opinions tend to be polarized). I would agree with some of the reviewers below about untidiness - the house although modern, spacious, and generally very well furnished, appears untidy and clutter is definitely visible, and yes the outside is very unkempt indeed. With regard to cleanliness, no complaints at all about our room in this regard, although on the stairs and landing there was quite a bit of what appeared to be wood dust; maybe some internal building work or DIY had been going on recently. In conclusion, I'd agree that Chris' approach will be a breath of fresh air to some, but equally might make some people uncomfortable.

We have just come back from our third stay at Rockridge House and have only just read the reviews. Each time we have stayed we have had a lovely experience. The house is spotlessless clean and very beautifully furnished. Chris maybe laid back, but only to make you feel welcome, he doesn't gush, is not pushy and for us that is his charm. He takes his lead from your approach and is most engaging in conversation. He is also very knowledgeable about the area. The perfect host. The breakfast is second to none and the view from the breakfast table is breath taking. Its proximity to the most picturesque beach you could wish for and The Minack is truely superb. We will be visitors again very soon. I would not risk staying anywhere else. The flat is a wonderful addition to the accomodation offering.

We have stayed as a family this time but have previously stayed as a couple. The experience was the same. Chris welcomes children and engages well with them.

Room Tip: Flat is really great for families. The main house rooms are very comfortable and have lovely views of the valley and sea scape.
