The lakefront around North East has been my family's vacation destination of choice for several years now, and every time we visit we take a trip to Freeport. It's an unpretentious place with a great menu, from interesting appetizers (try the "buoys" sometime - deep-fried eggs with bacon) to local perch and yellow pike sandwiches, baskets, and dinners. The steak is also great. Their homemade sausage is said to be good too but I always opt for the perch or pike when I visit. Service is attentive and friendly and there's a great selection of beer and local wine. This place can get real packed, so be aware of that. (We've never had trouble getting a seat.)
