I've eaten at the Gardenville a couple of times over the last couple of months and I'm reading these reviews afterwards. Let me try to put some perspective on the place and please note that I have only gone here for lunch.
This is an old time bar that is masquerading as a restaurant. It is not Le Bec Fin. If that is what you are looking for you will be disappointed. The G'ville is a known entity for the locals who enjoy the food and comraderie. If you sit in the bar area, be prepared to be sitting with local people. If you can't deal with that sort of environment, sit in the dining area. That should solve that problem for you. Regardless of where you sit, the service will be friendly and efficient.
Regarding the food, be prepared for a pleasent surprise. Everything on the menu is going to be good if not spectacularly good. I'll agree, some of the menu items are pricy, but, you get what you pay for. When you are paying $14 a pound for a Delmonico at the supermarket, you can't expect to pay $19.95 at a restaurant. If you're going to fret the price, order something less expensive. Regardless of what you order, once you taste the food, I doubt you will be disappointed.
