As part of a family trip to Pennsylvania, we stayed one night in June at the Renaissance in Pittsburgh to go to a baseball game and the children's museum. One caveat is that we got an amazing deal through a travel 'bidding' site so the review should be considered in the context that we didn't pay much.

Check-in was great. We were a bit early, but after a short wait a room was available and maybe because we had 2 tired kids with us we got a great room on a top floor overlooking PNC Park. Great room, comfy beds, nice bathroom, no issues.

We did choose the valet parking which, while expensive, worked great as parking was at a premium that day due to the baseball game. We took the car out at dinner time and it was fast getting the car. I would say it was worth the price but certainly for a longer visit the price would add up fast.

Had a pint of beer at the pub in the lobby. Cool place, good service, decent price and great selection. Should have had a whiskey or scotch though as that is what they are known for. The only food we got was in the 14th floor lounge that is usually for business travelers, but that was the floor we were on so we took advantage of the service. The hot breakfast was great and the desert buffet at night was awesome. We wife also enjoyed the workout room. Wi-Fi worked fine and was fast. Didn't pay extra for the 'premium' service.

Location is perfect for everything downtown and was right across the bridge from PNC park. It was also only a 5 minute drive to the children's museum. Could have walked it but we were heading out of town that day anyway.

Overall, I would come back for sure. We would pay much more then what we did and still be happy but like all 'fancy' hotels, whether it would be worth over two hundred bucks a night depends on a lot of things. As it was, our deal was so good the cost was negligible.

My husband surprised me w/ an evening here on Valentine's w/ dinner in town. We had a beautiful view of the river & stadium. The room was classic looking in style. They have a great lobby bar that serves a fantastic Bloody Mary. Enjoy! It's the best hotel in Pittsburgh.

Terrific large, comfortable rooms with 12 high ceilings, large windows and terrific amenities to support personal comfort and work requirements. The first and second floor is graced with classic architecture. The hotel, though, has a hip and modern feel, a classic blend of old and new that works amazingly well.

I was booked into the Renaissance Hotel in conjunction with the NHL entry draft. The front desk personnel couldn't have been nicer or mor helpful. The room was spacious enough for a single traveler or with a couple to move around comfortably. Wifi was complimentary in the room as well. The in house bar was very good and not overly expensive. The breakfast buffet on weekends ,while not fancy or extensive in choice, it was very fairly priced.
There is ample night life surrounding this hotel, which is located in the arts district and directly across the bridge from the Beautiful Pirates baseball park. If yo have to take a trip to Pittsburg and don't mind spending the money for what this hotel provides then I highly recommend The Renaissance Hotel.

I was booked at the Renaissance in downtown Pittsburgh for a conference. Conference rooms were small and poorly shaped (long and narrow), but the rest of the experience was great. The room was on the small side but beautifully appointed with a great view of the river and Pittsburgh's historic bridges. Terrific bed and lovely linens. Wonderful in-house bar with specialty bourbons and restaurant with friendly service and great food. Spectacular lobby. Walking distance to other restaurants, Warhol museum, and other sights downtown. Only complaint: the "background" music is way too loud and intrusive. But in the restaurant, at least, it was turned down at our request.

Room Tip: For the best views, ask for a room facing the river.

This hotel is in a remodeled building in an older part of downtown. The trouble starts with the approach. It fronts on a narrow crowded street. If traffic is bad, like Friday afternoon, it can take a half hour just to get a couple blocks to the hotel. No pull in at the hotel, just a couple curb spaces to pull into. No apparent place to self park, so your stuck with $30 valet parking. Bell service very prompt. Hotel lobby has nice marble features, but small and dark. Room was average for downtown 4-stars. The river view is wonderful, overlooks river and PNC park. Great place to stay if going to game, easy walking distance just across bridge, which has no cars before/after game. Several good hotels across river (Hyatt, Spring Hill, Residence Inn) have easier access, parking, and not as expensive.

This hotel has a great location close to the stadiums and lots of dining options. The hotel lobby is unique and comfortable. The bar in the lobby was great as well. The room was somewhat small, but comfortable and clean. Overall it is a good choice for a hotel in downtown Pittsburgh!
