As part of a family trip to Pennsylvania, we stayed one night in June at the Renaissance in Pittsburgh to go to a baseball game and the children's museum. One caveat is that we got an amazing deal through a travel 'bidding' site so the review should be considered in the context that we didn't pay much.
Check-in was great. We were a bit early, but after a short wait a room was available and maybe because we had 2 tired kids with us we got a great room on a top floor overlooking PNC Park. Great room, comfy beds, nice bathroom, no issues.
We did choose the valet parking which, while expensive, worked great as parking was at a premium that day due to the baseball game. We took the car out at dinner time and it was fast getting the car. I would say it was worth the price but certainly for a longer visit the price would add up fast.
Had a pint of beer at the pub in the lobby. Cool place, good service, decent price and great selection. Should have had a whiskey or scotch though as that is what they are known for. The only food we got was in the 14th floor lounge that is usually for business travelers, but that was the floor we were on so we took advantage of the service. The hot breakfast was great and the desert buffet at night was awesome. We wife also enjoyed the workout room. Wi-Fi worked fine and was fast. Didn't pay extra for the 'premium' service.
Location is perfect for everything downtown and was right across the bridge from PNC park. It was also only a 5 minute drive to the children's museum. Could have walked it but we were heading out of town that day anyway.
Overall, I would come back for sure. We would pay much more then what we did and still be happy but like all 'fancy' hotels, whether it would be worth over two hundred bucks a night depends on a lot of things. As it was, our deal was so good the cost was negligible.
