Courtyard Pittsburgh Downtown
Ranked #38 of 72 Hotels in Pittsburgh
Reviewed 3 July 2012

This hotel is excellent! We had a room with two queen beds that had city views and floor to ceiling windows and vaulted ceilings! These features made the room look much more open and was absolutely stunning! Our shuttle driver (I believe his name was Mike) was very friendly and more than willing to help us when we were in a bind! This showed me that this Courtyard's staff is extremely professionial and hospitable! I will be back to this property and I know I will recieve the same service! Thank you for such a wonderful day!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the city!

Great service, great location, and great rooms. The rooms were well decorated, clean, and comfortable. We selected the hotel because it is within reasonable walking distance to PNC and also for comfort.

The Courtyard is in the heart of the Cultural District, and that is a fun area filled with decent places to eat. It is also within easy walking distance of PNC Park, which is certainly a major plus.(We were in town for a 3 game series). As for the hotel itself, it is decidedly ordinary, and certainly not even up to the standard of a typical Marriott(In fairness, Courtyard is a lower priced brands. We had 2 rooms, and they were good sized, clean and modern. While there is a restaurant adjacent to the hotel, the Bistro is off of the lobby, and serves a minimal(though inexpensive) breakfast. The valet service was slow. On balance, I would be willing to stay here again for baseball, although if given a choice I would select the nearby Renaissance Hotel.(It was sold out the weekend we were in Pittsburgh).

I have stayed at this Courtyard several times when visiting Pittsburgh and continue to come back for the great value this place offers. Rooms are large and comfortable, the staff is amicable and quick to cater to your needs... everything here works the way it should.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the conference center are nice and quiet

I’ve stayed at the Courtyard a number of times during my visits to Pittsburgh. Its location in the city’s cultural district allows for convenient access to the main performance venues such as Heinz Hall and the Benedum Center. It’s also surrounded by restaurants: Right next door is the excellent Sonoma Grill where I have had dinner many times. The David Lawrence Convention Center is around the corner; the Andy Warhol Museum is about a 20 minute walk across a nearby bridge.

I have always arranged for rooms overlooking Penn Avenue, which have two queen beds and a spacious interior with attractive layouts including insets for the coffee maker and setback shelves with artificial plants under a night light. While higher floors on the Penn Avenue side afford good views of the city, lower floors might be a little noisy when the city has its annual jazz festival or a sporting event is underway.

You might opt for a quieter room facing the pleasant interior courtyard. Some of these, such as #523, have a King bed, but the rooms are smaller than those on Penn Avenue. Finally, you can ask for a more expensive but roomy “King Suite” such as #514, all of which face the interior courtyard.

On the downside, room service is limited to what you can get from Sonoma Grill, which does have fine food but which delivers its coffee in paper cups. In the back of the first floor lobby is an uninspiring but serviceable breakfast area, which has been down scaled from its former waiter-served tables into a bland ordering counter.

Pros: Enthusiastic, helpful staff. Central location. Ten-minute walk to the Amtrak train station three blocks away.

Cons: Limited room service. And you get the usual Marriott corporate prudence: Paper cups in the in-room coffee maker and closet hangers with small, off-size hooks.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Penn Avenue offer good views of the city.

I really enjoy staying at Marriott family of hotels. Their rooms have this unique feeling that you can only find and enjoy with them. As a business hotel, breakfast is available at the lobby and you can just pay for what you like. It also has a convenience store area where you can easily purchase what you need.

Room Tip: I think any room is a good one. That is the nice thing about Marriott.

I recently stayed here for a night before a train trip. The hotel is in a former building that manufactured pants! It was abandoned for 15 years before Marriott took it over and transformed it. The lobby is very comforting and the rooms are huge. Great high ceilings, wonderful beds, flat screen tv's and internet service. The hotel offers breakfast at a cost. The location is in downtown Pittsburgh within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops and the stadiums. Public transportation is one block away and both Amtrak and Greyhound stations are 2 blocks away.
