“Unpleasant”
Reviewed 18 June 2012

I generally like Mad Mex and usually go to the one in Mt Lebanon. Since we were at the RAVE Theatre on McKnight Rd on Saturday night, we thought we would stop here for dinner on the way home.

Bad idea! There is a nice airy patio-like indoor seating area, but the clueless hostess for some reason seated us (middle-aged couple) in a dark, wooden, high-backed and sided 2 seater booth across from a separate section with 3 family-sized booths, all of which were crammed with little kids. No kidding-- there were 19 people in those 3 booths, including 9 children! Absolute chaos!

With the whining, the running around, outright screaming and the too loud music we could hear even though the bar is on the other side of the building, we couldn't hear a word the waitress, or each other was saying. Halfway through the meal, I couldn't take it any longer, and had to ask to be moved. By then the nice section was full and we were stuck in another dark, nasty booth which really does feel like you're dining in a closet.

The carnitas burrito was delicious, but the cornbread was mushy and the cole slaw tasted like something in it was past the expiration date. My sig/oth had the chicken quesadilla which he said was not hot enough (I mean temperature, not spices). Beer tasted stale. Tab for 2 @$38 with tip.

It was so unpleasant we won't return.

“Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Beer Selection Best In Class - Go During 1/2 Priced Happy Hour”
Reviewed 29 April 2010

We go here about once every two weeks for a wingorita and margarita. It's what the doctor ordered! Their beer selection is constantly changing if you can't find what you like on the specailty drink menu. Over the years, the drinks have gotten more pricey, which is why we ONLY ever go during happy hour, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. A small margarita will run you $10 otherwise. The atomsphere is unique, although the service is often a little lax. The bottomless chips and fireroasted salsa are a must to start with. It is kid-friendly, but kids are never running around. They offer high chairs and toys for the kids to play with. We moved to Cranberry in the last 3 years and visit that one as well, but that was not an option for reviewing. Try everything and every sauce type on the menu at least once since everything has a unique flavor!
