Most Mexican restaurants have pretty standard fare. Don Jose is definitely a cut above. The endless chips are appreciated albeit not the best we've ever had. Why aren't they salted when they come out of the fryer while they're still hot? Lime salt would make them outstanding.
That said, the salsa was excellent and pleasantly different from the standard. Everyone in our party was happy with their entree. All dishes were seasoned to perfection, and the cheese sauce on our chimichanga was creamy, flavorful, and plentiful. The shredded chicken was perfectly seasoned and tender. Another in our party had the Adobe Chicken for the second time and was pleased that it was as good as the first time he had it. The sopapilla was a cross between a churro and the usual honey/butter fried tortilla. Fried, heavily coated with cinnamon sugar, drizzled with chocolate, and dollops of whipped cream. A perfect ending to our meal. Our server was attentive without being intrusive bringing additional chips, salsa and drink refills without being asked.
Don Jose provides a great value for your money with reasonably priced dinners in the $8-10 range and enough food to satisfy. The only other observation we have is that the menu is very extensive with perhaps a few too many choices. In any case, we highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning the next time we're in the area.
