“Convenient, nice staff”
Reviewed 2 August 2014 via mobile

We stayed here after a concert and the staff was really helpful. Valet is expensive an parking isn't exactly convenient. Rooms were a little small and needed a few patches and facial updates, but overall it did the trick. We paid a lot less with AAA, but I wouldn't pay more than $250-275 a night for this place.

We recently stayed at this hotel for a college visit. It is conveniently located right at the university of Pittsburg. That was the good part. When we pulled in there was no one to help with bags. Then we got to our room and were tired from traval. We decided to just call room service. After trying to get thru pushing the room service button on the phone that did not connect we called on our cell to the hotel. We said the phone was not connecting when we pushed the button and were told "well that's mainly decoration". We were transferred thru, ordered food but when it came it looked like frozen platters that were microwaved too long. Well if you want a place to sleep near the University it's ok.
But don't expect nice amenities. Also when we went to leave the parking area the gate was broken and I had to walk to the front desk to get someone to let us out. Maybe they just had a bad day??

Room Tip: ?? I didn't see one!

The best thing about this hotel is the location -- not much else in the immediate Oakland/University area that I could tell. It's attached to a U. of Pittsburgh Med Center, so apparently does a lot of business with visiting patients, but we were there for its proximity to cultural venues. The rooms were fine, but nothing special. No fridge, for example. I'm not sure of Wydnam's market -- I don't think I've stayed in one before. I'd say mid-market based on this experience. The folks working there were very nice, and helpful when asked, with only one so-so exception. Parking is convenient either in the small side lot next door, or in the Med Center garage, for $10/day. Our per night cost for Sat. - Mon. nights was about $214, including the room charge of $179, local taxes of $25, and the $10 parking. All a little steep for the quality of the hotel itself, but I expect it's the location that can command those prices.
