“Wonderful long weekend in Pittsburgh”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel in Pittsburgh. We chose to do self-parking at a weekend/holiday rate of $5 for a 24 hour period. Well worth it when compared to the $29 valet fee (plus tips). The garage immediately adjacent to the hotel did not accommodate my pickup truck (too tall for the 6'0" limit), but the bell hop was kind enough to direct us to the next closest garage that could accommodate us (the Oliver Street garage), which was only about 1.5 to 2 blocks away.

At check-in, we asked about getting a King bed (we were booked into a queen bed). Unfortunately, the hotel was fully booked, so we couldn't get a King that first night. However we were offered to switch to a King bed the next night if we wished. Margareta was the front desk person who helped us. She was terrific and very kind. After discussing the options, she ended up putting us in a room on the 9th floor (#978, I believe) which was small but had incredible views - exactly what we asked for (and exactly as she had described it to us). We ended up not even taking her up on the offer to switch to a King the following night because we liked our queen room with the view so much! Yes, it was pretty small, but very comfortable and with all of the expected amenities including a mini fridge and coffee maker. The bathroom was a decent size, and the closet was very large. The windows opened a little bit to allow in fresh air if we wanted.

We popped our head into the Speakeasy, but didn't stay, figuring that we'd go back the next night for a drink. Unfortunately, it didn't occur to us that the next night was Sunday and they'd be closed. Oh well. It looked cool when we stopped by, anyway.

All in all, we really enjoyed this hotel. The bed was super comfortable and the service was top notch. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Oh, and to top it all off, I got a super, super, super good rate by bidding through Priceline. You can't beat that!!

Room Tip: The front desk staff seem to know the rooms very well and were very accommodating. So don't be a...

My wife and I stayed here over the memorial weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The staff at the front desk was wonderful and the hotel is majestic. Dave the doorman was very nice and helpful, a great represenative of the hotel. The room was very clean and nicely appointed.

great all around... called front desk after booking on priceline and changed reservation to two beds easily, beautiful historic building with a spectacular lobby to hang out for a cocktail in, big room, clean, great location downtown (highly recommend nearby Meat & Potatoes for dinner) - all at the price of a motel. very glad we decided to spend a day/night detour in Pittsburgh on our PA shopping trip

First, I hate stuffy and don't like over-the-top luxury, but comfortable, clean and classic are a traveler's treat. The Penn has hit the sweet spot: a classic old hotel with all the modern amenities, great service (one slightly stiff/formal hostess). The Tap Room pub has excellent food and friendly service and atmosphere. The breakfast buffet, though somewhat pricey, is possibly the best I have experience outside of Europe - seriously heaven for the protein lover with sausages, sausage patties, ham steaks, bacon, scrambled eggs, and the usual omelettes etc..

The Omni hotel "William Penn" in the central business district of Pittsburgh was a delight. It is simply a FABULOUS hotel with staff that want to help you and make your stay perfect. Thank you Lauren and Gabriella for making checkin a breeze and answering all my questions with pleasant voice and a smile.

It is an old historic hotel, but don't let this deter you because you do not get the cramped, old hotel feeling. Everything is clean, kept up, and the rooms are large - imagine space between the foot of the bed and the TV, yes there is a lot of space there, not just a small walkway you find in so many hotels.

Great hotel, great location - the Lawrence Convention Center and Station Square are both walkable from the hotel; the fitness center is superb for a hotel (wood trim). Pittsburgh is a lovely city and should be visisted - when you do come here stay at the Omni and walk along the rivers - so lovely.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 12th floor, street side and heard a lot of street as well as hallway noise from ins...

Although I have visited Pittsburgh on many occasions, this was my first time staying at the Omni. I was very pleasantly surprised. The room was updated and comfortable. The bathroom was large with all needed supplies provided. I especially liked the coffee, minimuffin, and newspaper provided each morning to my door. This was part of their preferred program, a special and appreciated perk. I enjoyed two breakfasts in their dining room. The order was taken and brought quickly to the table. The hotel itself was in a good location, close to the convention I was attending. I look forward to returning to this grand dame of a hotel.

Went there for a conference for a few days and since we knew the rooms came with a fridge decided to stop to pick up some 'drinks' for the room. Now this is a State thing, you can NOT buy alcohol at a grocery store or any place other than a state owned liquor store. When it comes to beer, they don't sell anything smaller than a case, no 6 or 12 packs. On the plus side they have drive thrus you can go to take your pick of 24 or 30 packs, but they're only open until 9:00 pm Mon-Sat. Another plus, there is a nice large store right down the street from this hotel. No mixers there but you can get just about everything else you need for your cocktails there. One other comment for folks with vices, if you smoke you need to go outside and across the street from the front of the hotel, no loitering right out front or you can go out the Oliver street entrance on the side of the building.

Now onto the hotel related information. Let me give you the essentials, parking is valet at $29 a day or self park for about $14 a day at the underground garage across the way. if you're entering through the front door consider using one of the bellhops to help with your bags, there is a small flight of stairs you have to go up to get to the front desk. Tough to drag the bags up the stairs, but once you walk through the doors you don't have much choice. Or you can go through the Oliver street entrance that has handicap access but no one is there to greet you when you pull up, better option in my mind.

I believe that they are in the process of remodeling the rooms, so it's possible that all the rooms do not have these features. We had a room on the 17th floor facing the front of the hotel. When you get on to the actual floor it seems like a maze, but they do a real good job posting signs with arrows so just read them and you should be able to find your way just fine. Our room wasn't the largest (see pictures) but it was comfortable with the usual amenities (hair dryer, coffee maker, ironing board & fridge). The windows actually opened a few inches so we could let in some fresh air but the climate control in the room worked rather well and there were no thermostat wars. But my favorite part (you might have to be part of the Omni reward program for this but well worth it) every night you can put in an order for two free beverages delivered to your room in the morning at a time of your choosing. Despite the in room coffee maker, you can order coffee, tea, juice, milk, or hot chocolate and both mornings we were there they also included two mini muffins, as well as a morning newspaper. Closest thing I've had to breakfast in bed in years ;) Just make sure to put the door hanger style order form out before 1:00 a.m.

The bed was comfy and they have plenty of outlets in places you wouldn't notice (again see pics) and they have little motion sensor lights on the bottom of the night stands to keep you from tripping if you get up while its still dark.

Since we were here for a conference all the meals were provided by the hotel and they were delicious. We went to the lobby bar for a drink one night (a rather large group of us) and the service was good as well as the drinks, but watch out for the Wasabi peas, they were a little spicy

This was a nice hotel with a lot of history and the service was great. The only reason i left the property was to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. If I'm ever in Pittsburgh again, I would have no problem staying here (especially since I know which
entrance to use to drag my bags through)
