We heard about this place and wanted to try it for ourselves. The service was great and the prices good too. I think we will make this a stop on our River Road bike trips. Loved the historic building. You feel like you could be in the colonial times. We really enjoyed it.

It's primarily a hole in the wall bar, but it's a friendly enough place. A little dark and not very much atmosphere, just what you want in a bar. You'll see all types of clientele, a lot more tourists on the weekends especially during the day. It's harmless, and really quite accommodating.

They offer typical "bar food" (most of which comes straight from the deep fryer to your plate) but it will keep the beer company in your tummy. Reasonably priced.

Good food, generous portions served in a friendly old time historic River Village bar.
Best of all, open during the November 2011 storm damage and power outage. We have a residence nearby and were happy they were open on generator power with the amazing Vinny, with flashlight in hand, juggling as the cook, waitress and bartender, serving over 15 happy people. The most popular platter that night seemed to be the Cheese Steak with French fries.

Apple Jacks is entered from a barrel entryway in the stone walled basement of the former Hotel. Its an original old time u shaped bar, with a pool table, music juke, occasional DJ or just a portable Bose, for a little dancing, like this storm outage.
Known for an interesting mix of locals, travelers and 2nd home weekenders. We have been fans of their Chili, and generous servings on their Holiday special platters like Turkey, Roasts, Corn Beef and Cabbage. Always a a pleasure to see Dale, the proprietors' smiling face.

It was pretty hard to find a place to stop and get something to eat on River Road in Pa after Hurricane Irene. I had not been to Apple-Jacks in years. It was open and we were hungry so we figured it was time to go. I am so glad we did. Service was excellent even though our server was also working the bar. The Pierogies were a perfect app for sharing. Everyone was totally satisfied with their sandwiches and meals and the price was right. Good comfy hole in the wall place.
