Owner description: It was the year 1829 when Americans were getting used to their newly elected president, Andrew Jackson, that 23-year old David G. Yuengling, an immigrant from Wurttemberg, Germany, settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and started a brewery. Originally named the Eagle Brewery, today the Yuengling pride, symbolic of the American Eagle. Each Yuengling label bears the eagle trademark chosen by young David Yuengling so long ago. Previously located on Centre Street, current site of Pottsville's after only two years of operation. A new brewery was then constructed on Mahantongo Street, where operations continue today. The brewery remains family operated by Richard "Dick" Yuengling, Jr. and his daughters are being groomed as the sixth generation.

If you're in Pottsville this tour is a must. If you're going near Pottsville, put the tour of the brewery on your list.
The oldest brewery in the country has lots of history including the building in which it's located. The guide was extremely informative with a great personality. The reward, if you will, is the last stop to the tap room where you are given 2 cups of sample beers made by Yuengling. Well worth the trip. Don't forget to visit their gift shop. Everyone needs another T shirt!

What a neat place to visit if you around the Pottsville area! Don't expect a modern brewery with cans and bottles zipping by at breakneck speed, what you will enjoy is more of a history lesson and a walk through time. Don't mistake the gift shop for your typical gift shop either. There are so many historical items and a very neat bottle/can collection, you will want to spend half of your time in there! Joanne our tour guide was great and made the tour more fun. Thanks! There are lots of stairs so it's not suitable for someone with limited mobility. We parked at the bottom of the hill in the parking garage and ate at Ruby's first, but I think there is a parking area closer to the brewery. Not sure if it's for tour parking but saw people parking there. On street parking is somewhat limited but plentiful if you don't mind a little walk. There were visitors from several states on the tour when we attended and it was during a weekday so expect it to be a small crowd. Seems to be a very popular attraction. Good tasting at the end too! Entrance is on the side of the building in a small alley in case you can't find it at first. Pottsville is a neat little place to visit and it's amazing how steep the streets are.

Our family celebrated my brother in law's 50th birthday at the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, PA. We had a great time on the tour and good beginning to his birthday celebration.

Our tour guide, Joanne, was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I have been on many brewery tours and this was one of my favorite tours.

The tour ended with a beer tasting in a nice little bar room near the store. The store had all of the Yuengling merchandise and also had some museum pieces. The entire working brewery is a museum. Great pictures and archives throughout the brewery.

We parked on the street. I am not sure if they have a parking lot for the tour.

This was our second trip to the brewery in Pottsville. We were still amazed by the city, since its hidden in the mountains. The brewery is on a mountain side, with cobblestone sidewalks and a cool setting with the old building. Pretty cool free tour takes you underground into original hand dug caves and free sample at the end of the tour. Love Yuengling, and will keep coming back.
