The hotel is located in downtown Reading, PA. An older site, it has been extensively renovated in recent years. The huge lobby is truly beautiful, with marble floors, high chandeliers, a piano on the second level. There is a very nice restaurant and a charming, comfortable pub off the second floor lobby area. There is attached covered parking, a bargain at just $2 a night. The downside: the furnishings in the room. The beds were large and comfortable, the bathroom spotless, but the furnishings are showing obvious signs of age. The carpet is old and in need of replacement, some of the furniture had scratches and other signs of wear, the bathroom and sleeping area in need of new wallpaper and/or painting. But the staff were great, very friendly and helpful. Hotel is within walking distance of some very nice local restaurants: Judy's; the Ugly Oyster, and the Peanut Bar. The Goggle Works, once an abandoned WW II factory, is now home to artist's studios and shops, and worth a visit. Would definitely stay again.

This is my second time at staying at this hotel. first time liked the ambivalence of this older style hotel. had a nice little pub/restaurant so we didn't had to leave to go eat. When we mentioned it was our anniversary the staff offered us a free desert if we purchased one. No so this year. hotel showed need to address issues of peeling wallpaper, shower head in bathroom almost fell off, gift shop which offered snacks before wasn't even manned with an employee this time. Will not stay here again.

We traveled for a wedding held in the hotel and stayed one night . The sign did say excuse our appearance but the public areas were very nice. I had to ask an employee heading back from a smoke break to find a luggage carrier as we had medical equipment to bring in along with bags for 3 people. We got eventually but no help . There was no ice available on the floors and we had to return to the lobby to find we could get some at the front desk. The information wasn't offered. Neither the heat or AC functioned very well - I was hot and my friends room was cold. Parking was $2.00 which seems rediculous to me when the rooms are costly and there is no difference in price from 1 person to 2. The staff was very nice and did let us check in early with our reservations. The curtains in my room were a bit shabby and paint was flacking on the sills. The hotel is downtown and the surrounding neighborhood is shabby . There are no attractions or shopping within walking distance. However the food at the reception and breakfast buffet was superb .
