We were in the area shoping for cigars (at Cigars International in Hamburg). We did not want to stay in the area, but needed a place for the night. I found Stirling Guest hotel here and do not regret believing in the great reviews!

The scenery going from Hamburg to Reading is not very attractive, but... As soon as we saw the mansion, we were amazed!

The staff is welcoming and helpful. The service is impeccable. We enjoyed the garden and the pool, the room was luxurious, and the breakfast memorable. The mansion is an "Historic Place" and it was a privilege to be able to stay there as if we were in our home.

The place deserve to be visited if you are in the area, and if you're not, consider the detour.
There is absolutely no reason to go anywhere else. The price is reasonnable and the place is amazing.

Do yourself a favor and spend at least one night at the Stirling. The staff; Jeff, Mary and Chef Ron were wonderful. The Mansion is beautiful. It was clean, dust free and not what I expected from a century old Mansion. The floors did not creak, the ceilings did not leak, and the windows did not rattle. I like that the renovations did not take away from its historic features. It's not the McAlister but it's still a wonderful get away even for a night.

Room Tip: If you like antiques, the Mansion is where you want to be. Whatever you decide, you will not be dis...

We stayed for two nights from 21st May. The main house was absolutely fantastic. We stayed in what would have been the coach house, the main room was large with a mezzanine level which was the bedroom, everything was very nice, but in our opinion there were a few things which could have been better. The bathroom could have an extra shelf as there wasn't room to put any of your things. Coffee making facilities would have been nice and there were no curtains(drapes) on any of windows which meant you woke up as soon as it was light.
On the upside, the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was excellent.

The Stirling Guest Hotel is the antithesis if cookie-cutter rooms and so-so service. We had a great experience over a PSU college graduation weekend. The extended family - grandparents, siblings and more - all stayed at the hotel. On Friday evening, TJ graciously set-up a beautiful area for us to enjoy appetizers and wine (we provided food / wine and they had plates, napkins, utensils and a beautiful table) prior to going out to dinner at Say Cheese in West Reading. The next morning, we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. Overall, it was a great experience and I would heartily endorse the hotel! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is the quality of the towels and the bed itself. Not everyone had a super-comfortable bed...

We booked 1 night at the Stirling as we were in town for a concert at the Berks Jazz Festival and we are already planning our return visit for next year. We were warmly greeted by TJ and his trusty sidekick Johnny, the Italian Greyhound!! TJ gave us a tour of the property and showed us to our room which was absolutely fantastic. We saw several other rooms as well and honestly, you cannot go wrong with any room you choose here. The beds are super comfortable, fine linens, large and immaculate bathroom, gas fireplace, flat screen TV and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was so delicious...we were stuffed. The service is impeccable...TJ is so warm and welcoming. You cannot miss this gem of a B&B if you are in the Reading area. We are planning an entire weekend for next year to take in more concerts at the jazz festival....but most importantly to stay at the Stirling which we have just fallen in love with!!!
P.S. If you are a Downton Abbey fan....YOU MUST STAY HERE!!! In a way, you'll feel like you are at the Abbey!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite....very large with a separate living room and bedroom.

We booked one night here because we were in Reading for the Berks Jazz Fest. The building is very well kept up--the woodwork, the hand-painted ceilings, and stained glass, all are beautiful and provide a luxurious setting. Our room on the third floor was comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. We have stayed at B&B's throughout the U.S. in several countries and are former innkeepers/owners, and I have to say, our breakfast was one of the best we've ever had. My husband's French Toast was cooked to perfection. My asparagus and brie omelette was melt-you-mouth delicious, not overdone or overstuffed, just perfect. TJ was a gracious host. We look forward to returning.

This is a gorgeous old mansion house, taking pride of place at the top of the hill. It is family run and the owners are very friendly, genuine and help to make my stay a real pleasure .

My room was massive, with a huge King size bed, and the bathroom was possibly the cleanest I have seen in a hotel, totally spotless.

The room had cable TV with a good size good quality flat screen. Free WiFi is available everywhere, but the signal was a little weak in my room, fine for e-mails but not quite good enough for Skype.

A cooked breakfast was served within 5 mins of ordering every day, and the food was simple but perfectly cooked every day.

It's a Bed and Breakfast, with no evening catering or bar, but that was actually a positive and encouraged me to get out and explore the local area each evening.

I was alone, travelling on business, but if I need to go back, I would stay again without question.
