“Close your eyes and indulge in the aroma!”
Reviewed 1 August 2012 via mobile

Family owned and operated, this business can not be more friendly to patrons. Take the time to talk to the owners, share their passion and let them feed your soul. There's nothing fancy about it, but if you want good pasta with a decent dose of Chianti, give this place a try.

“Great food, terrible service”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

We've dined at Gran Canal several times, but after the last visit, it will be a long time, if ever.
The food is consistently good, authentic Italian and in fairness, we've had good service in the past.
This time, however, our party had appetizers and salads, then waited nearly an hour for the entrees. The restaurant was not busy and other parties had arrived after us and were served before us.
When we asked the waitress what the problem was, we just got the standard response, "It's coming soon". There was never any reason given or apologies offered. When our entrees did arrive, they were barely hot enough. We were comped a couple of desserts, after the fact, but they should've brought dessert menus and insisted that everone have one on the house. Or maybe offered free drinks or a refill on the bread basket while we waited for the entrees.

“The finest family run restaurant in Pittsburgh!”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

The Gran Canal is the finest family run restaurant in Pittsburgh. Michael, Antoinette and their children will treat you like part of their family. The food is wonderful as well. Dont miss The Gran Canal!

“Great homemade pasta”
Reviewed 30 December 2008

This is a nice little restaurant in Sharpsburg, so it is off the beaten track but worth the trip. The chef owns the place, his wife works there, and they help to make this a friendly evening. Great pasta, I especially like the amatricianna which is full bodied and just a bit spicy. Open only for dinner, they have a liqour license. Interesting desserts too, someone at my table had fig gelato recently and that was very good. Reasonably priced, most of the pasta entrees are around $18.00. I just discovered this, but apparently there is a discount coupon you can buy which is worth checking in to:
