“great weekend at stony brook”
Reviewed 21 July 2009

We spent a long weekend at stony brook inn, arrived late afternoon, our room was beautiful. Had dinner at Sam Smeads, great crab cakes. Walked back to the Inn to meet Pete and his lovely wife Roseanne. It was like coming home. They were the greatest hosts, the Inn is just beautiful. The breakfasts were incredible I was given the great pleasure of eating Roseanne's famous baked french toast. It was delicious. We went to the first Wurst Festival, which as nice, will probably grow over the years but the food was very good. Overall we had a great get away, wanted to thank Pete and Roseanne for making us feel like family, I would return time after time. Thank you both. M and K

Owners of the B&B very friendly. Stayed in the Oak Room, room was nicely decorated and clean. During the night you can hear the traffic from the road. every room has a private bath however you need to step out of the room and bath is next door. Breakfast was perfect. Good price. Easy to find.

having just returned from a 28 night 'Historic Inns' self resarched and booked tour in New England and Eastern USA , we stayed in some in 14 such establishments (all sourced thru'
' iloveinns.com ' and cheched where possible thru' tripadvisor) this one deserves special mention as the hosts were so fantastic and helpfull. Besides being a delightfull old property in a lovely area it was the hosts and their attitude to us 4 guests that made it stand out. We were sceptical when booking as it was so modestly priced, but the addage 'you only get what you pay for' is incorrect with this Inn - you get far more than even the most demanding visitor would expect.

We enjoyed the cozy inn, hosts are friendly, their kitten Pebbles stole the show. We are cat people, and had a lot of fun with Pebbles. The setting is in the midst of a small village, next to the Playhouse/firestation. We heard the engine leave once in our overnight stay. The room, though small, was comfortable. The closet only allowed room for our coats, owner's stuff was abundant. The cooked breakfast was ample, and they catered to our vegetarian dietary needs.
We would go there again. The scenery is spectacular, hills, trees, streams, and a pileated woodpecker, like Woody Woodpecker was captured on our digital camera.

Stayed at Stony Brook Inn on October 12 on my way home from the Berkshires. Innkeepers Pete and Rose Ann couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful re: local restaurants and activities. They like to interact with their guests.

The teddy bear room is cute but not cutesy; street noise was minimal. Rose Ann's baked French toast was all that other reviews trumpeted. Their kitty Pebbles is a petite lap cat when you show interest in her, especially when you read in the living room.

Pete actively solicited suggestions for improvements. They want to talk to potential guests to ensure that expectations can be met successfully. I'll definitely stay here again. What an enjoyable place to end my vacation!

We had stayed here five years ago and had this one on our list for this trip. We did not make reservations as our travels were not set. Tried to call on our cell-phone outside but didn't work so had to ring the doorbell. We were the only guests and we took the bridal suite. So what if we have been happily married for 44 years we can still dream! Pete and Rose Ann are very pleasant people and we gave them tips on their future cruise to Alaska. Also, the resident cat, Pebbles, seemed more interested in spending the night with us instead of them. We love kitties, so no problem here. Shawnee-on-Delaware is very close to Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg, a.k.a. Eastburg, which all have fine restaurants. And there are fine ones locally. Give them a call, you will enjoy your stay. Incidently, we normally do not stay at B&B places, but this one should not be missed.

A warm greeting by the innkeepers, and a dip in the outdoor swimming pool for the kids was a great start for our two day vacation in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The restored 1850's home had a downstairs bedroom with 2 twin beds and filled with stuffed bears for our children, while we stayed upstairs in a large clean comfortable room filled with antiques. Located right on River Road across from the Shawnee Playhouse, there was a modest amount of traffic noise, but not enough to disturb our sleep. A full breakfast the next morning, got us started for an all day canoe trip down the Delaware river, and on a weekday morning, we had it to ourselves for the first 2-3 hours. The next morning my husband walked down to the river with our son for an hour of fishing before another hearty breakfast that included a wonderful homemade baked French toast. A great value for the price, I would highly recommend it.
