“Down by the Old Mill Stream Inn”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

We come back here every Summer and it just gets better. We come to Lancaster for the Shows and Shopping but we come to the Mill Stream Inn for the ambiance.
Every morning you can enjoy a breakfast that will hold you till dinner. The lightest waffles I ever ate and you have the fun of making them for yourself. Plus juice, eggs, yogurt, home made rolls, fruit, oatmeal and gravy and biscuits. A lovely Amish lady bakes the sweets herself. Everything is clean and you can have as much as you want.
The inn offers a free bus tour around the country with shopping at quaint shops. You must book in advance.
The rooms are spotless and quite comfortable. You have a fridge, iron and board and the price is always right. We get adjoining rooms and bring snacks and beverages to enjoy at lunchtime. This is truly a wonderful getaway. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: We always stay in the back overlooking the stream. There is wifi in the lobby.

We stayed here for one night while visiting Dutch Wonderland. It is no frills, but offers some nice amenities such as a continental breakfast and pool, plus there is a little creek out back as well. We have stayed here on one other occasion, but I felt that the service and cleanliness has declined. It could definitely use some updating, but for $104 a night, if you are on a budget it will definitely do the job!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the creek.

I must say I had low expectations because of the low price of this hotel but I trusted the previous reviews on TripAdvisor. Wow, what a great value it turned out to be! We arrived around 4pm for a 3 night stay and our room was ready. We were initially on the first floor facing the stream (in the back) but the room smelled very moldy and there was a dehumidifier running. It looked very clean but we are very sensitive to mold so we requested a move to the second floor. I think with all the recent heavy rain there was some moisture issues on the lower level but I could be wrong. The front desk was very accommodating and gave us a room on the second floor in the back again. This room smelled perfect! The room was spotless and had everything we needed; an iron and ironing board, a nice size refrigerator, hairdryer and some really nice smelling soaps and shampoo. The beds were very comfy and all the linens smelled and looked fresh. The hotel towels were some of the nicest I've ever used. They were super white, soft and absorbent. The only thing that was a bit tough to deal with was the air conditioning unit. The vent would only point up and down so the air was blowing directly onto one of the beds. It was very drafty at night but a minor issue. The view was beautiful from our room with a stream and farmland. In the front of the hotel you could see the Amish horse and buggies traveling back and forth. There were 2 chairs directly outside our room if we wanted to sit out and take in the view. The pool was super clean and our 8 year old had a great time in it. The breakfast in the morning was just perfect. They had a little of everything. Don't expect a typical BIG American breakfast. It is more like a European breakfast; light and satisfying. The hard boiled eggs tasted like they had just been taken from the chickens and the Amish breads and gravies; well... yum! There was the sweetest Amish woman manning the breakfast area. It made breakfast super special to see her smiling face each morning. There is also a cute little gift shop in the lobby. The surrounding area is just amazing; not too congested and farmland everywhere. The hotel is a short drive to all the fun of Lancaster. Great location! I highly recommend the restaurant, "Good and Plenty" down the street from the hotel. The food and service was great; real home cooking. Make sure to try the Shoo Fly Pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. With our stay at this hotel was a complimentary 2 hour bus tour of the Amish country. This was fascinating and I wished it was longer because we enjoyed it so much. Our tour guide had family roots in Amish life so it was great to get some "inside" information. The tour stops at 3 shops; a quilt shop in the basement of an Amish home where we saw some of the most beautiful quilts we've ever seen, a candle/souvenier/ice cream shop run by Amish and a countryside store with the most AMAZING soft pretzels you will ever taste; so buttery and delicious! Again, I wish the tour was longer because we enjoyed ourselves so much but you can get a map at the hotel of the places the tour visited and go back on your own. I wish we did the tour the first day so we had more time to explore the countryside. It is a blessed place! Overall, this was a great stay and we would definitely stay again here in the future. It's not a 5 star hotel and yes things are a little dated but that is part of it's charm. It's clean and friendly and that ranks 5 stars with me! What a great value!

Room Tip: Second floor in the back rooms have the best view and is on the same level as the breakfast area.

Although a bit dated, motel was comfortable. A light breakfast is offered. Second floor was quiet and room was very clean. Location was great and is n the middle of events. Easy to find. Employs were informative and pleasant as well.

We have stayed here many times. In the heart of beautiful Amish country. You can actually see and hear the clip clop of buggies driving by. The rooms are clean and very accommodating. When we checked in they were gracious enough to give us a first floor unit due to my handicap. Very good breakfast in the morning with waffles, biscuits and gravy, Amish breads, and more. Will continue to stay here in the future, they never disappoint.

I have been staying at the Mill Stream Country Inn and almost 25 years. I love the location of this motel. It is very central to all of the highlights in Amish Country. If you are lucky enough to get a room in the back, you can sit out on the porch and look at the beautiful scenery, creek, grazing cows, and many other relaxing sights. You can walk to one of the best restaurants, Good N Plenty. Very good food and the best Buttered Noodles in Lancaster! The motel rooms are spacious, the sink is outside the bathroom, there is a microwave and a small refridge. It is clean, staff is very friendly, and the best complimentary breakfast around.
Whenever there is good news though, there is also bad, or not so good news. Mill Stream Country Inn needs to be refurbished. In some of the rooms, the wallpaper is coming off, the bathrooms haven't been touched, pictures haven't changed. Beds are very comfortable, rugs have been replaced and you can't beat the location. It is the best! We tried staying in another motel one year, it was terrible! We went back to Mill Stream the following year. I hope Mr. Smucker considers updating Mill Stream. He is updating the Bird-In-Hand Bakery which is opening in August. That looks fantastic!!!! Enjoy your trip to Amish in Lancaster County. It is well worth the trip!

Room Tip: Second floor in the back is the best location.

This hotel is located on route 898 that connects two major roads in Amish Country. great location for touring and shopping. Hotel clean and friendly staff. Rooms in need of update but not really a problem. Breakfast include at very reasonable room rate. Rooms facing the back have view of stream and farm land great place to sit and relax and enjoy peace and quiet!
