My husband and I recently stayed at the Inn for two nights. The property and views are quite lovely, and I can imagine it will be breathtaking in the fall. We, however, will not be coming back.
Unfortunately, this hotel did not live up to its reputation, nor did it live up to our expectations. The rooms are pricey, for no discernible reason. We were switched out of our first room because of SIGNFICANT cleanliness issues, and were changed to another room which also had some issues (but by that time I was too tired to complain and just wanted to go home). The suites (we were in two) are tired and certainly not the quality one would expect for a hotel that purports to be an elegant luxury establishment. In fact, I just looked at some of the user posted pictures online, and see that the second room we stayed in (which WAS much nicer than the first) has not had its decor freshened since 2007! The restaurant is over priced and the food is certainly not 4 stars (trust me, we know whereof we speak). Just because a jacket is required does not mean the food is memorable. There were issues there too. Spa services pricier than at much higher quality resorts and the philadelphia area. Beds ok, sheets wonderful.
Here's where the compliments come in...The entire Staff cannot be nicer. The managment was pleasant and apologetic. They were immediately responsive to our complaints/concerns. They switched us to another room, and left roses, a split of Korbel and a complimentary cheese tray (with no knife to cut the cheese lol). They did take money off our final bill, which we appreciated. The views are superb. Breakfast, which comes with the room, was wonderful. The restaurant is pretty, but it would be much improved if there was a formal bar for a before or after dinner drink, since there is not a formal lobby - its your room or nothing. The Inn is a lovely building and the grounds are well kept.
In the final analysis, its a shame the Inn does not step it up a few notches and commit to live up to its own hype. Its got a ton of potential, but perhaps its lived on its laurels way too long. We will not return because, quite frankly, there are too many other establishments that truly deserve the appellation of luxury spa and resort, and are much better values for the money.
Tip = (1) We had a much nicer, more enjoyable and much more fun dinner *(much less expensive) the next evening at The Hotel in the village; (2) Pay attention to the service charges, especially the "bartender" gratuity, before tipping out to the staff.
