We had not been to the 100 year old inn for years and it looks the same. Not pristine, not polished, but just a relaxing place to have a beer by the woodburning stove and chat with the snowshoe, cross country ski crowd. Every room in the main house was booked. And yeah, the rooms are nothing special. The bed was comfortable. No tv or any frills which was ok. Sari and Jimmy-the innkeepers who had frequented the place for 30 years before buying it, are not warm and fuzzy but they do grow on you. They have a lot of personality! The food is very good. A full breakfast comes with the price of the room and it's great. Actually the food has to be very good because there is not much to do up there. In the summer we have enjoyed floating around the lake in an inner tube or in a canoe. Bring some books, forget the cell phone as it will NOT work here. (this can be good!) It is a very old fashioned kind of trip. The carpet in the room could have used a cleaning. And yes, there is a 15% 'gratuity' on the room rate and the dining charges which seemed a bit much. But it was cheap to begin with. -We went with some old friends and just relaxed and had a great time. i would not recommend it to my best friend only because it is too rough around the edges for most folks.

Innkeepers were not welcoming and projected a vibe that they really weren't interested in you, your comfort or your perception of them. Also beware of the "In lieu of a gratuity a 15% service charge will be added to the room rate". If you sleep in a dump do you really want to pay the 15% penalty for being stupid enough to stay there in the first place? Oh yeah, the food is laughably horrible.

Dear Sari & Jimmy,

I just wanted to say how wonderful our stay was at your Inn. My husband , daughter and I have never experienced such wonderful tranquility. If Imani returns to Camp Lohikan next summer, we will definitely be staying at the Starlight. Your inn is a wonderful respite from hectic city life....and the food was absolutely scrumptious!!!!!!

Thanks again

Rhonda, Tim and Imani Hayes

we selected the inn at starlight lake for our three day honeymoon. the hosts, sari and jim schwartz were warm and welcoming. we had booked online and initially selected 'treetops'. upon our arrival, sari was so thoughtful to show us both treetops and the suite, offering either as our reservation. we loved the suite - we loved the inn- the dining room-the menu with so many delectable choices and the delicious food. dining was a real pleasure and the sweets, all created on site, were an added bonus. the wait staff were helpful, pleasant and professional. we enjoyed the grounds, loved the fact that we could canoe around the lake in october and love the fact that we were able to include our dog in our long walks around the lake. we took a few steps out of our suite and felt like we had our own tennis court, which we also were able to enjoy. we thank sari and jim schwartz for making a memorable honeymoon even more so with their great inn, nestled in beautiful surroundings and the care provided us. we very much appreciated that this is a pet friendly facility. we want to return to the inn and experience the summer season and again in the fall to celebrate our first anniversary!

Staying at this inn was liking spending the weekend at a friend's old but warm and inviting country home with all its little idiosyncrasies that add to the overall charm of the place. Don't go if you are looking for trendy hotel design, a cutting edge culinary experience or the typical though distracting amenities (like in-room flat-screen tvs) to keep you entertained. DO go if you seek serenity or time to reconnect with friends or with that special someone or even with your own inner peace. If watching the morning mist rise off the lake while sipping a cup of coffee on the inn's porch sounds appealing, then this is the place to see it . And don't overlook the lake at night. After a satisfying dinner at the inn's restaurant, snuggle down in one of the chairs on the lakeside deck, lean back and watch the sky fill with stars. (Ok, I will agree with a previous reviewer that they should lose the vending machine by the lake. Maybe put in some solar-powered footpath lighting to keep guests from falling into the lake in the dark.) As for accommodations, I can only speak about Room 14. While it shows the inn's age somewhat, I didn't see that as a negative...propping open old-fashioned windows with a stick is charming. The room itself was very clean and the spacious, modern bathroom was immaculate (just remember to bring your own blow dryer if you can't live without one as I can't). I'm very happy that we found this lovely little unpretentious inn and I look forward to a winter getaway there in December.
