“Best is State College”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

We switched to the Country Inn our last night during graduation weekend. We stayed at Toffetrees for two days at 599 a night (graduation rates) and then here for a night at 99. This is far superior to most of the older hotels in State College. The room is great and the service is excellent. The front desk is usually busy so check in might be a few minutes, but no one is complaining, just volume. Plenty of parking. I would make this one of your first calls for a room when visiting students at PSU.

We stayed here for a family wedding in late May. The price was very reasonable compared to the surrounding places. Location was very easy to get to and to get to all of the Penn State area.
the free breakfast wasn't bad, not the best, but somewhat decent. the rooms were clean as was the entire facility. Used the fitness center which wasn't big, but I was the only one in there. I saw the indoor pool which was very nice as well including a large Jacuzzi. the staff was friendly, especially Craig at the front desk.
I would recommend this hotel to all.

Location is great, right on the edge of the University Park campus of Penn State. Close to Bryce Jordan Center and the stadium. Sits back off of highway 26 so very quiet. Staff is excellent. Accommodations; I can't think of anything else you could need. For me I love having coffee available 24 hours a day. Coin laundry, great complimentary breakfast(waffles, pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, juice), free excellent parking, pool and hot tub looking out the back at the woods which often have deer. Walking distance to mini store and some restaurants. Rooms are modern, clean, bathrooms spacious with counter space which is getting rarer these days at some hotels, refrigerator, plenty of electrical outlets. We stayed for 4 nights over graduation weekend and despite the fact that the hotel was completely sold out and the staff was worked to the max they were always pleasant and helpful. The only minor disappointment we had was that last year when we stayed here over graduation weekend they had a shuttle van that dropped us off and picked us up after, which was a big help as my husband has difficulty walking long distances; this year it was not available. We will stay here every time we visit State College. Be sure to use your AAA discount and sign up for Club Carlson.

Room Tip: Upper floors toward the back are probably quieter.

Thank you for your kind review of our property! We are glad to see you have enjoyed your return stay with us here at the Country Inn & Suites. It is good to hear that we provided you with an enjoyable stay, through a demanding event, such as graduation! I do apologize for the inconvienance that you may have incurred due to the shuttle service from last year not being available. Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to seeing when your travels bring you back to Happy Valley!

EPIC FAIL!!! This hotel is an example of incompetance at its finest!!! My family of 8 stayed here from a Sunday to a Friday for a relative's Penn State graduation. We were advised check in would be starting at 3pm. As I have a toodler and we were on a strict timeframe for graduation ceremonies we arrived at the hotel around an hour early. The front desk employee informed me that out room was not yet ready but was guaranteed to be ready by 3. She also informed that (and pointed it out for me to see) that all housekeeping employees haf been bought lunch and were sitting eating it in the breakfast area. She told me that "as soon as they were done with lunch they'll get started cleaning rooms." We returned at 3 to be greeted with the beginning of the nightmare!! A dozen or more guests all were waiting, including oursevles, because no rooms were cleaned! We spent an hour chasing an 18 month old around the front lobby due to no room availability... This hotel had no foresight for a busy graduation weekend!!! Front desk staff were rude and brash in their manner of handling customers...making no assurances of when if ever we would get our room. I witnessed several guests booking rooms at other hotels just toeave this situation! This delay nearly made us miss graduation!! To cap this off they miss charged all of our accounts and this nightmare still continues!! I give one star because the hotel was not all that bad... Minus throw up all over a trash can in the 2nd floor landing. While were checking out we got the priviledge of listening to the front desk staff loudly and unprofessionally speak with customers over the phone about some sort of event booking that was messed up because of Carlsons website... Its like they dont want you to stay at their hotel!! Avoid this property at ALL costs!!!!

Please accept our sincerest apologize for not being able to check you in at 3 pm. We strive to ensure that all of our incoming guests are accommodated the right way at the right time. At times our departing guests do not leave at the right time creating a situation that leads to unpleasant experience.

My girlfriend and I recently stayed here for a weekend getaway. I have stayed at Country Inn's in the past, but wow, this was was AMAZING. We spent two nights here, and I honestly could have stayed many more. It seems to be a fairly new hotel due to many modern amenities. There is ample parking, so no need to worry about the parking lot filling up. The location of the hotel is perfect. It is very close to the Bryce Jordan Center and Beaver Stadium. It is also very close to the Penn State campus, about a 3 minute drive. The downtown area the the "happening" place with many good night spots and restaurants. The hotel is also right next door to a Dunkin Donuts, which made for nice late night snacks. When we arrived, the staff was very friendly and courteous. We we assigned a room on the 5th floor with a kind bed. The room was so clean and had no signs of wear and tear. The bathroom was very large. The shower could honestly fit 4 people, no exaggeration. The room has a coffee pot and small refrigerator for your convince as well. There are ample power outlets, which is a nice touch. There is also ample amounts of lighting, which is nice in a hotel room. The only downfall for the room, there are no blackout curtains. The only thing blocking light from coming in the window are those white thin curtains, ones you can almost see through. So in the mornings, if you are looking to sleep in, you may be woken up by the sunrise, which for us was a 6:45. Overall, the room was a 5/5. The FREE breakfast was nice. And no, this was not a simple continental breakfast, this was a full breakfast. The food area was very clean and the staff made sure it was always full. One other nice touch, there is always coffee and cookies in the main lobby for your enjoyment, which is something I thoroughly enjoy at a hotel. There is also an exercise room and pool, which seemed nice, but did not use. Overall, I would say this was an amazing stay. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel if you're staying the State College area.

Thank you so much for your very kind review of our property. We do appreciate you taking the time to write such a thorough review covering so many aspects of your stay. I would also like to apologize that you were not made aware of our black out blinds that are located behind the sheer curtains as I am sure sleeping in would have been much easier.
We do hope to see you back at the Country Inn & Suites in your future travels to State College.

I stayed here over the weekend with other members of my family who were in town for my brother in law's final recital.

The hotel is very clean and our king-bed room and bathroom were a great size. The staff didn't mind us using the breakfast area as our "party room" since there was such a large group of us, and it was nice that we didn't have to relocate to go and have a few drinks.

The complimentary shuttle was available during the day, but wasn't available in the early morning for an airport run, so definitely call ahead of time if you're looking for a ride at an off-hour.

The location of the hotel is literally a 5 minute ride from downtown State College. If you're concerned about missing out on all the fun and not being in "the heart of Penn State," fear not, you're still very close!

The free breakfast was average; the eggs and other hot items were really salty and on Saturday morning, the food wasn't being replenished fast enough to accommodate the number of people who wanted to eat. There was fresh fruit, cereal, make your own waffles, pastries, coffees and juices available, too. I can't complain too much though - it was free!

One other note...a woman named Amanda who works at the front desk answered the phone all three times that I called with questions. To be honest, her tone could use a little work, as I got the sense that she was annoyed by my calling to ask about the shuttle hours, check-in times, etc.

Overall though, great stay - highly recommend, would stay again!

First and foremost, thank you for the compliments on several aspects of your stay, our facility, and staff.

Our staff prides themselves on going "above & beyond" to Wow our guests so I will be sure to pass along the areas you were impressed with.
In addition, rest assured we would also take every opportunity to improve in any areas as well.
Therefore, your observations about some breakfast items being salty and quicker replentishments being needed will be most helpful as we evaluate both selection & scheduling.

Further, I sincerely apologize about the less than stellar tone you received from Amanda. She is typically our ray of sunshine, however clearly was off her usual pace with you. Regardless, every customer contact should feel like the only contact of the day & we can do better!

Again, thank you so much for your nice recommendations of our facility. We appreciate you taking the time to illustrate this all for us, so we can improve as well.

We are all looking forward to seeing you on your next visit to State College!
